I wonder if John's sons joined up at a similar time? I have a bible inscribed by John Schofield Shaw given to my relative on his going to the front. I would be interested in knowing if any of his son's enlisted and if they did then did they serve in the West Yorks? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: eeemaaa1 Surnames: Schofield and Wild Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.schofield/859.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi I hae also been looking into a William Schofield today and I am wondering if it is the same one. I am descended from a line called the Wilds but when I was looking them up in the census, I found that John Wild (which is as far as I had got at that point) was living with his grandparents Noah and Mary Schofield at the age on 18 in 1851. In 1841 he is living with his mother Ann Wild. This made me wonder whether he was illegitimate but I have found a record of marriage between a William Schofield, a mechanic in Saddleworth, and Ann Wild in 1828. So it confused me that her child would be called Wild. I saw you said that your William Shcofield died in 1832. John Wild must have been born in 1832/33 so it could be that she was pregnant when he died. This could all be speculation, but if you have found out any more about your Schofield and it looks like it could be the same line then do let me know! However, I am still on the hunt for actual birth and death records, which are very hard to obtain, especially from Sri Lanka, and before that India and Ireland. Would you like to contact me privately? 1. Re: [SCHOFIELD] Abner Schofield of Kings Co., N. S.
    2. Ron Buckley
    3. Hello Terri, My great grand father, Abner Scofield was born abt 1882 in Horton Township. That is the original name of the whole township so named by the Planters who had moved to Nova Scotia in 1760. The Schofield came from Haddam, CT., to take up the land and farms recently vacated by the French Acadians. Abner was born in was Black River or Black River Settlement, later known as Vesuvius and today is Black River, Kings Co., NS. Abner and his father purchased the farm in Black River, (around 200 acres) built a house there. I have a copy of the deed to the farm when they finally drafted and recorded a deed and registered it in the early 1800's. The deed mentions that they had been living on the property for some time. I don't know how long before 1800 but it would have been around about 1870 since Abner's father Arthur sold his land that had been granted to him, to his father in law Wm. Coldwell (of Gaspereau) and moved to the South Mountain and settled in Black River. The Ells family moved into the community around 1800 and settled on the next farm from either Scotts Bay or Pereau, (now Kings Co.,) and Abner discovered that the family brought with them their 16 years old daughter. They were married 16 Feb 1804, she being 16 years old and he being about 22 years old. They must have liked each other as they had 15 children over the following 26 years. I discovered Olivia has a middle initial "F", and I don't know what it stands for. Abner died around 18 Oct 1864 in Black River. That is his burial date. I obtained this burial date from a friend who has the minister's personal diary. He recorded that on this date he buried Abner Schofield of Black River. Others would not have this date. Olivia died a few years before Abner, the date being 30 March 1860. All the Schofields of Kings Co., and further away originated from this couple and from this farm. Until a few years ago my brother and I owned the farm. We just own a small portion of the original farm today. I hope this fills out some of the blanks of the family. I have more information if you wish to exchange data. Author: Nancy_McCarty Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.schofield/885.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Kathleen, I have some hints for you. My Schofield family was also from MA, RI, and England so I thought I might get a connect, but from what I've seen, not yet. here's what I did find and where I found it. If you go to familysearch.org they have a search for online records link in the left bar (most of this site is free). From there I put in Allen Schofield and they have him on the Rhode Island census returns, which you'll want to look at as the 1905 has full birth dates. I also noticed on teh 1915 that Wm & Amelie (?) are living with them...which may change your search for a birth record as not only did it have the different first name, but a different birthplace (Nova Scotia). I did check and there is a female schofield born 29 Nov 1888 in Cumberland, RI to Wm & Nancy Schofied. This site also had a death record (1932) which listed Allen's parents as Samuel Schofield and Mary Hurst (wife's maiden was Ann Bradley). You can always track an Aunt/Uncle back, find them on census returns to find siblings, and then trace the siblings down to find where people belong. I've used this back door approach a number of times with great success. I did find Allen on 3 UK census returns, 1871, 1861, and 1851. He's in Huddersfield, Yorkshire, England each time. in 1871 he's living w/Amelia Bradley (appears to be wife's mother's family) and in '61/'51 he's with his family. He has 7 siblings; 6 brothers so you'll have a lot of work tracing those brothers. he does have a Wm as a brother though, so I would maybe start there as it matches that birth record above. Happy Hunting! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
