Hello I do not have any records of your Jacob A. Schofield. My files are of members of the family that moved to Canada in 1760 from CT. The family originally came from England in 1660 (Arthur Scovel, original spelling of the family name, one of two brothers) and settled firstly in MA then went to CT settling in the New London Area. With the removal of the French in Nova Scotia my branch of the family then migrated to Nova Scotia in 1760 to take up the lands vacated by the French. Sorry I could not be of greater help. This family populated the east coast of Canada and the USA during the past 350 years so you will be running into many family members with variations of the family name spelling from the original Scovel, Scoville then Schofield , Scofield all names having a similar sound but the spelling jumps all over the map depending on the education level of the scribe who created the census/marriage/death and other records. Have fun in sorting out the family records. I have been trying to get an email to this list for some time for information on James Schofield born 1853 Littleboro, Lancashire, England. Married 1874 Elizabeth Ann Ashworth Rochdale, Lancashire, England. Elizabeth Ann Ashworth Born 1853 Tottington, Lancashire, England. 4 Children Thomas, Ernest, Henrietta, (my Grandmother) and Lily. James was a railway pointsman. I would love to hear from someone who can help me find out if James had any brothers or sisters plus his parents names any help would be wonderful as I am unable to work out the Schofield as there are so many James Schofield born around the same time. My grandmother Henrietta Schofield married Jackson Rudman 1910 and they came to Australia in 1911. Thank you for any help you can give. Arthur Cornwall Australia. E-Mail: arthurcorn@Hotmail.com

I had been able to find Abner's marriage and one daughter, your mother, so it is nice to see the line continue. This makes you my 3rd cousin. How much do you know about The Schofield and Swallow family? As I have researched this family, I have banged my head on the desk top, wall and yelled at the computer screen more often than most lines I research. "Schofield" is like "Smith", "Brown", or "Jones" in America, too common. The naming patterns are so similar as well. Samuel Schofield b abt 1827 (believed to be in Yorkshire) is an unknown to me right now, I have searched and searched for his parents, have some leads but nothing conclusive. He married 06 Aug 1859 at St. Mary's Parish in Oldham, Jane Brierly, daughter of Benjamin Brierly and his wife Betty. She was born 05 Spe 1830 in Lancashire and had at least one sister Jane. There are 3 contenders for his wife "Betty" unfortunately no proof as to which one is her. The marriage license does not state her parents name. I have one photo of her, nothing of Samuel. Samuel and Jane had at least four children. Ada, who I descend from, John, Abner and James. John and Abner married sisters, Eliza Ann & Minnie Swallow, daughters of William Swallow and his wife Mary Walker. Though I have some information on the Swallows I have not been following that line much. I know William's mother was named Harriet, though that is not much help. According to a census William was a house painter. William & Mary had at least 5 children, William Hy, Mary Emma, Eliza Ann, Miniie and Annie (Clara Annie). Back to the Schofields.... Of course you know about John. Abner first came to Rhode Island and a few years later returned to England, married and they came to Connecticut and had 6 children. Ada, Florence, Frederick, William, Gordon and Gilbert. Abner died in 1960, Eliza Ann in 1958. James Schofield married Eliza A, and I know they had at least one child Ada abt 1889 in England. But have precious little else on them. Ada was born 14 Nov 1861 and married James Schofield (a different Schofield line) 05 May 1885. James came over to America with his wife and infant daughter Ellen in Nov 1893. He had sold everything he owned to make the trip only to find out that the job he was promised was given to someone else and so they ended up in Illinois. Ada died 19 Feb 1901. James lived until 16 April 1934, long enough to see his two oldest grandchildren born. I have photos of both. Ada and James had 4 children. ELLEN Ada 03 Feb 1893 - 08 April 1989 (George Frew), TOM 15 Jan 1895- 18 June 1967 (md. Eva Erickson), DORIS 15 June 1897 - 15 June 1900 (md William Nels Hansen) LEE Whitehead 23 March 1900 - 18 Aug 1987 (md Lucy Bertha Minnick). Except for Lee, the family stayed in Illinois. Lee went to Massachusetts. I have information on all these lines. Ellen married a Scotsman, George Alexander Frew, called "Alec" whose family was from Old Monkland, Lanarkshire, Scotland. They had 9 children. The first, Janet, was my grandmother, her daughter Sheila was my mother. My mother passed 13 years ago this coming Saturday. I miss her every day. The Schofield families were mostly in the textile industry, working as "cotton winders", spinners, velvet weavers, and mill factory work. My Great Grandmother Ellen was the first child born in a "hospital". Her mother Ada was one of the best velvet weavers and was actually called back to work after giving birth because Queen Victoria wanted a new cloak for her Jubilee and they needed red velvet. The story was told that the family was concerned infant Ellen would not take a bottle and would she survive? Susan Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. This project honours a unique group of First World War soldiers who carved their names into the chalk tunnels in France, and your father, Private Herman David Schofield (born on 24 September 1898 to David Gordon Schofield and Sarah Anne Truesdale) is one of them. When your father enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force on 23 April 1915 he lied about his age. He claimed he was born in 1897. They recorded his age as 18 years old when he was really 16 years old! He joined the 55th Battalion, and traveled overseas on 19 May 1915. By February 1916 he became quite sick with Diphtheria and spent some time in hospital. After suffering a gunshot wound to his left hand in the field he was sent to recover in hospital again. When he was discharged from the CEF in 1919 his war file indicates he still suffered from a loss of function in his left hand. I am wondering if you might be willing to share any further information about your father that may assist us as we write a short biography for an exhibit panel. For example, a photo of your father would be a wonderful addition to our panel exhibit. You are more than welcome to respond to this thread, or please email me directly at kjpasierbek@gmail.com. If you would prefer to speak over the phone we will certainly arrange for that as well! Thank you for taking the time to read my post. I do hope the information I have passed along has been helpful, and thank you kindly in advance for any help you may be able to share with me. Have a wonderful day! I too have been looking for her parents and have run up against many, many dead ends (no pun intended!). I have researched the Isaac Scholfield/Schofifeld/etc. family and have concluded that although this is the likeliest family in that the dates and location are perfect, I can't find any concrete evidence that she was his daughter. It could be perhaps because she moved away from Boston and therefore off the radar? I see that you have also recorded Richard Skolfield and Margaret Given from Cumberland Maine as her parents, and even though I was the one who started this rumour, I've since concluded that it's just not the case. I don't have the heart to remove them as it took so long to construct it! Not a very good reason, I'm afraid. Unfortunately, James' death certificate just lists Lydia as "Schofield, USA" so no help there. I notice that you have Maria Bowes married to a Robert Michael McLean. I have her married to Francis Coburn! What source(s) do you have for this? I've been using the NS Genealogy site and found her marriage to Coburn there (https://www.novascotiagenealogy.com/ItemView.aspx?ImageFile=1816-203&Event=marriage&ID=51737). It lists her parents as James & Lydia, so I assume it's correct. I'd be interested in exploring the mystery of Lydia's parents further; perhaps if we're both searching it might yield something.
