Hello Jan, My Great-grandfather Peter Nicholaus Harders arrived from Hamburg as an infant with his parents Jacob and Maria Harders in Maryborough (Queensland), on board the German barque "Sophie" in 1865. Peter's death certificate indicates that he had an earlier deceased sibling in Marne, Holstein. Like you, I also have not been able to locate further details about this child. Perhaps records of stillborn babies or un-named babies were not kept? I would appreciate knowing if you do find out more with regard to this aspect of birth records. Regards, John Harders Ulverstone, Tasmania. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Janice Peasnell" <janicepeasnell@gmail.com> To: <SCHLESWIG-HOLSTEIN-ROOTS@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, February 21, 2012 12:35 PM Subject: [SCHLESWIG-HOLSTEIN-ROOTS] HINRICHS, BOLZ, REDER, MOSEN Hello Listers, I am researching the family of my Great Grandfather – Peter Nicolas HINRICHS who arrived in Maryborough, Queensland, Australia in 1877 on board the ‘Lammershagen’ from Hamburg with his parents and two brothers. Peter HINRICHS was born in Heide, Schleswig – Holstein in or about 1864 Peter’s Parents were: Claus Jacob HINRICHS born in Weddingstedt in abt 1836 whose parents were Johann HINRICHS and Wibke MOSEN. Clause Jacob HINRICHS died in Maryborough, Qld in June 1877. He married Anna Catherine Maria BOLZ in 1853 in Wöhrden. Anna BOLZ was born in Heide in abt 1828 (based on her dead cert) her parents were Paul BOLZ and Elizabeth REDER. Anna BOLZ married for a second time in Maryborough to Mathias PHILAR in 1876, she died in 1881, leaving three children Peter Nicholas HINRICHS aged 17, Claus Jacob HINRICHS aged 14 and Paul HINRICHS aged 6. All three children were recorded as being born in Heide. On Claus Jacob’s Death Certificate it records a further two sons and three daughters. As these children are not named it is assumed that they had died before 1877. Is it possible for someone to look up the census information for me to identify the children who had passed away? Or assist in some other way. If not could someone guide me to the best website for me to do that myself? Any help would be very much appreciated. I have put all I know about the family on this site so it can be archived. Jan and John, http://www.ddd.dda.dk/kiplink_en.htm This is the site that I found my Schroder family in Wöhrden. Well I correct that, as I found their parents, and it was the first document that had the parents surnames recorded, so a major breakthrough for my research. My Schroders came to Australia in 1864. They recorded 9 dead children in Germany but I have never been able to locate these children. You must put the names in German spelling and you need to play around with the parishes or just use the Holsten County. Hello John, Yes, I will let you know how I go. It is rather sad to think they lost so many children. On My Great Great Grandfather's Death Certificate he records 2 sons and 3 daughters but not by name - I am assuming that they died because they were not mentioned on my Great Great Grandmothers Death Certificate a few years later - I am not sure who offered the particulars for her certificate (she married again soon after) but you would think if these children were still alive she would have spoken about them, or at least my Great Grandparents would have. I realize that it will be a very hard task - but I have learnt over many years things come to you if you wait long enough.
