And what kind of course the soldier might have joined in 1943 in Halle / Saale. The 'Wehrmacht Auskunftstelle' WaST in Berlin couldn't help me much. They only told me start - end of service. Joachim =============== Researching military records in the U.S. isn't any easier. The military records center in St. Louis said they did not have any records at all for my grandfather who collected a pension based on his service. I found him in the Marine Corp muster roll at the National Archive in Washington, DC. If the German military kept a periodic accounting of the men in each unit and filed that away then that is probably where you will have to look. That Marine muster roll I looked through is on microfilm and is not indexed. I looked through it one month and one name at a time till I found my grandfather in Company A, 1st Marine Battalion, at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba in June and July 1898.
