My brickwall has been, trying to find out where my great-grandfather August Meyer, was born in Germany. His birthdate was February 9, 1866, and it was said to be in Schleswig-Holstein. His father's name was Carl Meyer, mother unknown. He came to the United States approximately 1880-1884 at the age of 15. He settled in Muscatine, Iowa where he met his future wife Martha Ikelman, they moved to Denver, Colorado, where Martha's brother lived and they were married November 10, 1891, at St. Patricks Catholic Church, Denver. They lived in Denver for 5 years, next moving to Cordova, Illinois, they lived there for 1 year, and then moved again back to Muscatine, Iowa residing there for 1 1/2 years. August worked at the Button Factory as a foreman. Their Two children Carl Henry Meyer and Gertrude Lillian Meyer were born there. Next they moved to Davenport, Iowa approximately 30 mile from Muscatine. this is where the finally settled and raised their family. August became a Davenport Policeman retiring in 1941. He died March 6, 1946 at the age of 80. Any information would be greatly appreciated. August was a very private person , and spoke nothing of Germany or his family there. Thank you, Marcia
