My grandmother, Anna Marie Schoning or Schonning or Schöning or Schoening (who knows how many other possible spellings?) was born in Haderslev on 4 June 1884. Her parents were Rudolf (Anton) Schonning b. 25 May 1856 and Caroline Nielsen b. 13 Apr 1859 in Haderslev. In ~1909 Anna Marie gave birth to an illegitimate son, Rudolph Schonning. In 1910, Anna Marie arrived at Ellis Island (alone). Her passage was paid by her aunt, Marie Lund of Penn Ave. in Perth Amboy, NJ. Anybody have any Lund's in Perth Amboy, NJ? Anna Marie worked as a house servant for a minister in NYC and in 1912 she married Knud Aggerholm Jensen (who had immigrated from Mollerup in 1903). In 1913, there is a record that Anna Marie's father, Rudolf Schonning, arrived at Ellis Island, and his destination was the address at which Anna Marie and her husband, Knud, were living on Hall Ave. in Perth Amboy, NJ. I can find no record of the arrival of Anna Marie's mother, Caroline Nielsen Schonning, or the illegitimate son, Rudolph, although, I have information from the children of Anna Marie and Knud that Rudolf Schonning, his wife Caroline and their illegitimate grandson, Rudolph, lived in Perth Amboy for many years thereafter. I'm looking for any information on this family in Haderslev. Also, Anna Marie had an older sister, Laura, who was (interestingly) born somewhere in PA, during an earlier, short-lived immigration. No indication of them being in PA during the 1880 census. Laura, at age ~40, married Jens Beck Jensen, the brother of Anna Marie's husband (two sisters married two brothers). Anybody out there have any clues or information? Kathryn Jensen Jewett
