My immigrant ancestor, August LANDAHL, was born in the Duchy of Lauenburg in Nov. of 1827. He married Louisa METZENDORF, perhaps before departing Hamburg, or else shortly after arriving in New York State. They settled in Erie Co., near Buffalo. I have looked at 2/3 of the parish baptism records available on microfilm via the LDS for parishes in Lauenburg, but no luck so far. I believe his wife was from Hamburg, and am assuming they departed from Hamburg. The logical timeframe works out to be early 1853; the first 6 mos. of that year are missing from the Hamburg passenger records. (Yes, I have looked at the months and years around that time anyhow.) I think another LANDAHL, William A., of Cedar Co. Iowa who was married to Anna ROSENBURG would also be a relative, but more distantly related. Any ideas or connections? Thanks for reading.
