    3. Dear members of the mailing lists, The AKVZ e.V. and the transcript of census registers The AKVZ e.V. (Work Circle Census Registers Schleswig-Holstein) wishes to convey here with details of its project to gather census data for Schleswig-Holstein: Transcripts are prepared without remuneration by volunteers. For this task the AKVZ e.V. is soliciting dedicated coworkers !!! The WinKip program, used by our Danish friends for years to transcribe data is now also available in German. An English version is being developed. This program is being used exclusively for the transcripts to ensure that the results are compatible with the Danish data bank, and will be freely available to anyone by way of data bank inquiries. The AKVZ e.V. cooperates with: LAS, the Schleswig-Holstein Provincial Archives; CAU, the Christian-Albrechts University in Kiel; AK, Work Circle Economic and Social History, Schleswig-Holstein; DIS-Danmark, Danish Data Processing; DDA, Danish Data Archive; as well as other scientific and historical institutions. For further information: http://www.akvz.deger/partnerD.html Now the AKVZ e.V. is in a funded position to foster the transcript of census registers, drawing on the resources of the GHSG (Society for Schleswig-Holstein History) and the AK (Work Circle Economic and Social History SH). We are happy to report that up to now we have recruited 44 individuals for active participation in the AKVZ e.V. Nevertheless, we are looking for more volunteers. The immensity of data (some 4.5 million individuals over 8 census cycles - 1769, 1803, 1835, 1840, 1845, 1855, 1860 and 1864) simply requires the division of this project amongst a number of people. Our Danish friends gave us the example. Their 1803 census for Denmark is almost complete. Within their data bank more than 4 million individual data are already available on line. The former duchies Schleswig and Holstein (after that also Lauenburg and the county of Dithmarschen and the duchy of Luebeck) are still "blank spots on the map". Should you be interested in our project, please send us an e-mail at: mailto:K.P.Voss@T-Online.de Each new coworker will be added to our internal VZ (Census Register) mailing list. During the initial phase this entails the advantage that you are kept informed of our progress and can count on support from this group. In addition, we offer bi-weekly workshops in conjunction with the TV station OK Kiel as a steady support service. An on line forum, a quasi FAQ help line, round out this support service.
