Dear Listers, I will do look-ups for you here at the Family History Library in GERMANS TO AMERICA, if you can give me an approximate year of emigration. My time is limited, so I cannot do a lot of research for you. Also, I will search the Soundex to the 1900 census for your ancestor to find his/her year of emigration and then check the GTA books. Too bad that some of you cannot plan a trip to Salt Lake to the FHL, because there are periodicals, etc. for Schleswig-Holstein with more information. The Library Staff is taking a survey to determine what areas in Germany that patrons are researching, so that they can determine where to purchase more microfilm and books. I will be sure to add Schleswig-Holstein. The Family History Library adds about 400 books a month to their collection and many more microfilms than that. I am looking for information on the Stutzke family arriving in 1889 or 1890. Names and birth years are: Martin (approx. 1840) Wilhelmina (1836) Herman (1864) and wife Matilda (1869), children Eric (1888) and Marlene (1889) Ferdinand (1866) Freidrich (1871) Martha (1873) Based on the birth dates of Herman's children the immigration would be between 21 Dec 1888 (Eric born in Germany) and 21 Dec 1890 (third child Mary Mathilda born in Jordon Illinois). Family history (oral) says that Martin did not travel with the family but came later and died either on the voyage or shortly after arriving in America.
