Looking for ancestors of my g-g grandparents, Johann VOSS (b. 1804 in Holstein) and Catherine MILLER. I have info on my great grandfather, Wilhelm Heinrich, born in 1848 in Bernsdorf (I've seen other spellings), Holstein, and emigrated in 1860 with his father and two brothers, Henry (probably Heinrich), b. 1845 and August, b. 1853. The oldest brother, Frederick VOSS , b. 1841, emigrated in 1859 and settled in Plattesville, WI. He served in the WI cavalry in the Civil War, and married Minnie SPETH. They moved to Iowa to be near Johann and stayed there the rest of their lives. Johan's second wife was named Fredericka. Johann and the younger sons settled near State Center, Iowa where John and Fredericka are buried. Henry VOSS was living in Wisconsin in 1909; August VOSS married in State Center and was living in Council Bluffs, Iowa in 1909. Wilhelm VOSS was in St. Joseph, MO. Catherine VOSS remained in Germany and married a man with the surname of Koch. I assume that Catherine Miller died before the family emigrated but have no evidence one way or the other. Any info appreciated. Kim Voss Wiar kwiar@cox.net
