Dear Group: The list seems a little slow right now so I thought this would be a good time to thank everyone that has responded to my call for help on the Giekau Church district workshop to be held in Mineola, Iowa, June 26.2004 at the Mineola Community Center. I have received pictures, maps, passenger list, census for the area, pedigree charts and a few misc. items so far, and would like to thank everyone for their help. To date we have a list of 32 researchers working on 34 plus surnames from the Giekau area. Last night we had the first meeting with the 1/2 Platt Players (half the group speaks Plattdeutsch and half doesn't) to put the skit together and what a bunch to work with. We had fun. We are going to reenact a day in Mineola farm life circa 1882. We could use a good Platt. song if anyone knows one. Hard core genealogy work will be done in the morning (limited to genealogist) The afternoon will have the skit, History of Schleswig/Holstein, History of Giekau Church area, Gut Panker and Gut Neuhaus history and the story of the 1688 witch burning at Satjendorf.(some Mineola surnames were involved) That is what we have so far and Thanks again for your help. have a good one, Gary
