Len, I'm not familiar with the DDD database you mention; however, if you know the date of arrival in NY and the name of the ship, you should be able to find the family on the actual passenger list. The NY arrival lists are available through the branch LDS libraries. You can then see if Theodore is actually on the list. Have you looked for Theodore on the 1900, 1910 or 1920 census? They shouls list the place of birth. In doing some research for my son-in-law, I found his ancestor claimed to have been born in the US, but I found his baptismal record in Germany!
