    1. [S-H-RTS] Seeking information on Bremer in Suderau
    2. Hello all, I am looking for information on Herman BREMER who was born July 28, 1846 in Suderau, Schleswig-Holstein and his family.  His parents were Hinrich BREMER and Rebecka LUDEMANN.  Hinrich Bremer was born 1817 in Grevenkoper Riep and died 1869 in Suderau.  Rebecka Ludeman was born 1820 in Suderau and died 1885 in Suderau. Herman Bremer was a blacksmith in the Prussian army during the Franco-Prussian War 1870-1871.  He married Auguste L. KOCH who was born April 25, 1853 in Kemberg, Germany around 1873, and they came to Missouri, USA in 1883.  Her parents were Christain Friedrich KOCH and Amalie Henriette TATKOWSKY. They had the following children who may have been born in Berlin: 1. Elizabeth Marie Bremer, born 1874 2. Anna Bremer, born 1876 3. Paul Frederick Herman Bremer born 1878 4. Emma M. Bremer, born 1880 5. Marie A. Bremer 1882 Other Bremer relatives in Suderau were HINZ, LUDERS, SEISSMANN, and BEHRENS. Any ideas of where to search for census, Lutheran church records, etc? How often was a census in Germany prepared and for what years? Thank you. Marian in Missouri, USA

    3. The Lutheran Church in Germany maintains extensive archives and photocopies of church records of baptisms, births, marriages and confirmations. In addition the originals can often be found at the original churches. Seeking information from these is best done thru the church archivists. For Lower Saxony and NorthRhine Westfalia the records are at Hannover.I do not know whether they also have those for S-H. Suggest you do Google search using terms "Lutheran+Church+Archives+Germany" I found the people at Hannover most helpful. There is a small charge and I received copiesof the original pages as well as a summary sheet giving genealogical flow. The biggest problem is reading the old fashioned German script but knowing a bit about what you are looking for greatly facilitates the guess work. The more information you can furnish, the less time and cost is involved. Supplying a flow sheets of marriages and births that you know and dates (more precise the better) is obviously needed especially when the surname is common.
