I think the nearest FHC is Atlanta but I am going back to Chicago this spring so maybe I will wait til then. The Heesch's have been the most difficult family for me to find! As far as Danny & Ellen Abbott, I have never heard of them. All of our Abbotts are pretty much in Illinois, with a couple spread here and there (after they left Illinois). Thanks for the info. I need to go back to that ship's list and check it again. There are both Heesch and Heeschen near Kellinghusen and Sarlhusen, Holstein. I have information on about six of them.....they are related to my third great grandfather who was a Wagner. LDS has census records of the area. If you'll give me more specific names and dates I'll be happy to check my own records further on both names. \ John jdbentz@prodigy.net
I am going to have to wait for the death certificate to come in for my great grandmother. Hopefully, that will have some dates on it. I was just hoping there was a site like the familysearch.org in Germany that could help with the research. Once I get the dates, then I will post them. Thanks. I have not been able to get any specific dates on Steffen Heesch. I just know that he married Anna Martins and they came to the US in 1869. They had 3 children that I know of - Claus, Maria and Catharina. Here is my familytreemaker website so you can check it out and see if anything rings a bell. http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/a/b/b/Carol-A-Abbott/?Welcome=1080589039 I am going to try to find their naturalization records to see what city they came from. If I find anything, I will contact you agin! Thanks! Carol (Heesch) Abbott jdbentz wrote: > There are both Heesch and Heeschen near Kellinghusen and Sarlhusen, >Holstein. Hi! I have a little more info now on my Heesch line. They said on the manifest for the ship coming over that they were from Friedrichskoog in Suder Dithmarschen. Steffen Heesch married Anna Marten July 1843 in Ecklak, Suder Dithmarschen, Holstein, Germany. I think he was from Burg and she was from Wilster. Their daughter Maria said she was born in "Friedens the Seventh" on October 10, 1844. Is that a city? My great grandpa Claus was born February 26, 1848, Catharina around 1851 and then a brother was mentioned once - Peter - to be born around 1844 not sure if it was earlier or later. This family has been so difficult to trace! Any info you can give me would be greatly appreciated though.
