Need help, if at all possible. My grandmother Anna Marie Månsson was b. January 23, 1876 in Lubeck Schlewig-Holstein. She was born out-of-wedlock to Stina Månsdotter. I do not know the name of her father. She left from Niedorfer, Lubeck May 5, 1882 for Virestad, Sweden to live with her grandparents. She was baptised February 11, 1876. Where? Is it possible to get her birth certificate and the name of the church she was baptized in? Someone told me all records were destroyed during the WW? Is that so? Anna Marie's mother worked as a domestic servant. In 1873 for A. Bendfeld in Sierksdorf, and in 1875 for Muhle (Mill) Quintzahn in Hasselburger if that helps any. There is a letter of recommendation for future employment with these two names on it. Any help appreciated or pointing me in the right direction or resource also appreciated. Thank you, Dorothy
Dorothy The Lübeck City Directories have been microfilmed by the LDS, as have many if not most of the parish registers for Lübeck. These can ordered into your local LDS library. There are certainly some gaps in the LDS collection of parish registers, presumably as a result of the Second World War. By locating your family in the Directory, you can work out which is the nearest church. I recently had an address for the 1880s in the Innenstadt (ie Old Town) and then I used Google Maps to locate the street, and from their changed to the aerial photograph to see that St Jakobi was the nearest church to their home. The main Register Office for Lübeck has a website http://www.luebeck.de/fb3/340_standesamt.html from where you should be able to get a civil birth certificate. (They'll charge for a search if you can't give the exact address.) Also, have you considered "Confirmation" Records. Your grandmother was presumably confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Sweden when she was about 14? What do Swedish confirmation records say? (I'm currently awaiting a Confirmation Register microfilm from St Lorenz which I hope will give me details of the children who were born in St Gertrud (I think) during a period when the St Gertrud baptism registers haven't been microfilmed (because they're destroyed?)).
