    3. Looking for the ancestry of Charles (Karl) Brandenburg who was born in Bast in Nov 4, 1835. Bast at that time, I believe, was in Baden but now may be part of Schleswig-Holstein now. He married Caroline Hildebrand and had 11 children and emigrated to Chicago in 1859. Any help will be appreciated.     3. Paul, there is a Bast in Pomerania : Bast / Kreis Köslin (Pommern) I know of two very small places here in Schleswig-Holstein with that name, one near Nortorf, one near Malente. Baden is 1,000 kilometers away from Schleswig-Holstein and has never been part of it. Please contact me off-list to learn about possibilities of researching your family lines.
