USA The name of the emigrant and his father match what you have, and the 1824 birth year is in the range you have for the younger man. Also emigration in the 1850s matches -- although this individual allegedly went to America, not Australia. And the mother's name does not match. Of course this could be a different person! The information that I have is scant but here it is -- * NAME: - I have copies of Australian records where his name is stated as: "Heinrich BLUHDORN" (his shipping record referred to below under my heading "Emigration", and a deserter's notice). However, when he married Catherine HOLLINGSWORTH in 1856 in Sydney, his name is stated as "Johann Heinrich BLUHDORN"; and on subsequent documentation such as the birth records for his children and his death certificate. * DATE OF BIRTH:- my research tells me he was probably born somewhere between 1815 and 1831 * WHERE BORN:- some of the information provided by him when reporting the births of his children state "HAMBURG, Germany"; but one certificate shows "SCHLESWIG-HOLSTEIN, Denmark" * FATHER'S NAME:- documentation I have about him says that his father's name was the same as his * MOTHER'S NAME:- all that I have is her first name: HELENA * EDUCATION:- it would seem that when he came to Australia he could not write since most documentation that I have is signed with his mark * EMIGRATION:- he sailed from the port of London, England on 1 September 1855 aboard "Calloe", a cargo ship; it arrived in Sydney, NSW on 24 December 1855. I have a copy of the shipping record for the arrival of "Calloe": a "ship of apenrade, T.W. Bruhn Master, Burthen 667 tons"; and, the nationality of all crew is stated as DENMARK. Heinrich is listed as a member of the crew, a "KOOK" (sic); and, his age is noted as 24 -- this is an age I am inclined to believe, which would make his birth year about 1831 And that is it! All that I know of Johann's life before his arrival in Australia in 1855. I do not know how or when he got to England to then come to Australia. I will be delighted to hear if anyone is able to assist me further to learn more about my forbear.
