    1. [SCHLESWIG-HOLSTEIN-ROOTS] THIESSEN---TIEDGEN
    2. Chris Thiessen
    3. I am searching for any information about Johann Detlaf Thiessen, born in Schleswig-Holstein 29 May 1845. He married Christiana Tiedgen 6 October 1865 and they emigrated to the States in 1868. They were Nebraska pioneers. Christiana Tiedgen is believed to be from Ruhwinkel, south of Kiel and her parents were Claus Tiedgen and Katherina Aressa. Not sure of the spelling of Katherina last name. Johann "John" Detlaff Thiess was born in Bristoff or something that sounds like that in English. This information was passed down through the family and written down by my husband's grandfather, Lewis August Thiessen, son of Johann & Christiana. I did find a town by the name of Busdorf just Northwest of Kiel, but don't know if this might be the place. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated on how to find out more on these families. 3. Hello Christine, There are two entries with similar names on Klaus Struve's excellent website http://www.rootdigger.de Here is the link for the page to start seeking emigrants: http://rootdigger.de/Emi.htm -- click on T to bring up the text page with emigrants with T surnames. There are two entries of interest: [1] There's one entry on Page 33 for a  Johann Detlef Christian Thiessen - about 2/3rds of the way down.Seems close to your ancestor. Born 1843, applied to emigrate 1865. [2] Then on Page 36, again about 2/3rds of the way down, is an entry for Johann Detlef Thiessen, with parents of the same names as the person above, but born 1845 -- with a wife Christiana or Christina Tietgen. They migrated in 1868. The second entry includes names of his parents plus a brother, son and a cousin, and mentions Nebraska. Hope this helps you.
