I am searching for information on my ggrandmother: Marie Margaretha Christine Paasch, b. 24 Sep 1861 in Kochendorf, Schleswig-Holstein. She married Richard Sigfried Clausen 17 Mar 1888 and they sailed for America the next day. She died 02 Dec 1926 in Bloomfield, Nebraska. I knew some of them but had never seen verwittwet before and have no idea where the last w might have come from. Guess I should get one of those dictionaries. I could not find it in the couple small dictionaries I have and tried a number of different translators that couldn't translate it either. Also tried all over the web to no avail. Perhaps they thought that was a donation one way or the other? But if that's the case you'd think they would have at least let you know they didn't find anything. Have you written back to them? If not, I certainly would and if you have I'd write again. The archive I was talking about would always do the research, then emial me the charges. I would then send the money and then they would send the copies. Another archive I had written to took a year without any response from them and then all of a sudden the copies arrived in the mail without even a bill! Don't know if they figured since it had been so long they wouldn't charge or what. I have never sent money in advance of getting a response from them saying they will do the research and mostly not until they have actually done the research. The archive I was dealing with is Kirche in Ostholstein, it was a big surprise since it is a church. I did receive good info from them but I had found what I believed to be a type o on the spelling of my 3x great grand fathers village and wanted to be sure of the correct spelling as it came up on the map and as two different places... I have yet to hear back. Over all I was very please with the results. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My wife and I have used him for research on both our families and have been pleased with his work. Klaus lives in Kiel and is very familiar with the area, the various research resources and you can contact him using the Contact tab to get a feel for his research fees. When you review the name Kuhl under the Emigrants tab you will see that the spelling is Kuehl. If you are new to German research don't let this bother you since the spelling often changed when they emigrated to America. Best of luck. For anyone who might know Jan's answer and is not sure the question; I think: Looking for a family with the German Surname Glibsburg living in Denmark. I've used them many times. I write in English but also use an Internet translator (machine) and put both in the email. They do charge about $45 per hour or $22.50 per 1/2 hour US and then a little charge to copy and mail the copies. Since there is no good and/or inexpensive way to send the money I have sent cash many times without a problem. They will ask you to direct deposit the money into their account but that is rather expensive to do. I know it is not recommended to send cash but I use as large a denomination bill(s) as possible and make sure it is not detectable through the envelope and I send it directly to the person who sends me the document copy. That's the only way to do it that I know of. If there is a chance that there could be more people from the family that you would be interested in it would be best to ask for them to find them at that time. It would be cheaper that asking for one document at a time because they likely are already in the area of the books where they would find all members of the family. I hope I've made myself clear on this, if not, please ask me for clarification. Janet Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. And I'd like to keep the expense down on this one as at this point I'm only trying to confirm or rule out this Herman Kuhl as the son of Maren Sophie Hansen (born in Denmark Mar 1854).
