Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.de/stellen.europa.deutschland.schleswigholstein/6378.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: If you have a christianing record from Germany the name of the village/town and the church as well as the entry number must be stated on top of it and it's the best option to proceed by contacting that church directly. They might be able to tell you where the records are stored. However there is the possibility that the records simply have been distroyed during WW 1 or WW 2. Another option, where I had lot of success is www.familysearch.org They have put an incredible amount of records online (not the originals but often the relate to microfilms)

I have not found a town/village called Clever, Klüver or Clüver and also never heard of it. Either this is the surname of your ancestors or it's a mispelling, when try to decipher the Suetterlin letters. Do you have an original document? Maybe I can help you with the guessing. I am coming from Northern Germany, so maybe when seeing the contents I might get a clue.

    2. Janice Peasnell
    3. Hello Listers, I am researching the family of my Great Grandfather – Peter Nicolas HINRICHS who arrived in Maryborough, Queensland, Australia in 1877 on board the ‘Lammershagen’ from Hamburg with his parents and two brothers. Peter HINRICHS was born in Heide, Schleswig – Holstein in or about 1864 Peter’s Parents were: Claus Jacob HINRICHS born in Weddingstedt in abt 1836 whose parents were Johann HINRICHS and Wibke MOSEN. Clause Jacob HINRICHS died in Maryborough, Qld in June 1877. He married Anna Catherine Maria BOLZ in 1853 in Wöhrden. Anna BOLZ was born in Heide in abt 1828 (based on her dead cert) her parents were Paul BOLZ and Elizabeth REDER. Anna BOLZ married for a second time in Maryborough to Mathias PHILAR in 1876, she died in 1881, leaving three children Peter Nicholas HINRICHS aged 17, Claus Jacob HINRICHS aged 14 and Paul HINRICHS aged 6. All three children were recorded as being born in Heide. On Claus Jacob’s Death Certificate it records a further two sons and three daughters. As these children are not named it is assumed that they had died before 1877. Is it possible for someone to look up the census information for me to identify the children who had passed away? Or assist in some other way. If not could someone guide me to the best website for me to do that myself? Any help would be very much appreciated. I have put all I know about the family on this site so it can be archived. Thank you for your assistance, Kind regards Jan Peasnell Melbourne Australia

Author: dmacdumes Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.ceeurope.germany.schleswig.general/6407.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Sometimes people from this region reported their origin as Schleswig, sometimes Holstein, sometimes Prussia. It can be a nightmare. In one census (Wisconsin state, 1905) my Schleswig Petersens were enumerated as being from Norway! You may have to look at documents from the USA to narrow it down. Have you looked into death certificates for your folks? Sometimes the town of origin was indicated. Do you know their emigration date? Many Schleswig-Holstein emigrants left from Hamburg. Ancestry.com has Hamburg departures in their database in German but readable. Often the last place of residence was recorded, which will give you a clue to where they lived, at least. Regards, D.L.
