Hi Sharon, the church of the parish Huetten stood and stands in Huetten. The records of that parish date back to 1763. The earlier ones were probably lost or destroyed. The people who lived there before 1900 were predominantly Lutherans, and 99 % is a fair guess. They were christened and buried in Huetten, and they got married in that church. There were no churches then in Brekendorf or Damendorf. Hütten Parish of Kreis Kckernförde has a few towns, but they all had only 33-50 Lutherans in the 1800's. Were there actual church buildings in town such as Breckendorf and Damendorf? The parish records only say Hútten Parish, Where did they have to go to attend church for baptisms, marriages and funerals? thanks. Sharon

Thank you for such a quick offer of help. I will attempt to attach the document. The names are Ernst and Grete Denser, about 2/3 of the way down the page. I'm particularly interested in the column that says something at the top about bracketing family members together, but then within those columns contains what appears to be names, surname and given. Grete's says "Reimers" with a vorname, but I cannot read Ernst's. Also, Ernst's occupation, which on arrival in the US was reported as "Merchant". And, obviously, anything else with a little "wow factor". THanks! Pat. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. It appears to be spelled with only one "n" at the end. Our sense was that they were from the Alsace/Lorraine region and emigrated to the US in the late 1800's. It is an unusual name and I wonder if there is any connection. Any information will be helpful. The earliest Gliesman I can find is Heinrich D. Gliesman who was likely born somewhere around 1860. Thoughts? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. If you would like to reply to them, please click on the Message Board URL link above and respond on the board.

Hello Kay Marie: I am sorry but other than BECKMAN, your surnames do not ring any bells with me, nor do the localities. Have you tried looking at the US 1880 census for them if in the US at that time? If they weren't in the US at that time and immigrated as children perhaps the GERMANS TO AMERICA What do their obits tell you? Perhaps, these would be helpful to explain the relationship of sisterhood. I have jottings from a family bible and it states: Eliese Schmidt, nee Beckman had a sister, Emma who married a Claus Hardekopf. There is something wrong with this information I have, and I just can't put my finger on it. I find a Elsie Schmidt who died in Otter Tail in 1922. I find a Kath Eliese Freudenberg, mother's name Beckman, born 1886 out of state and dying in 1976 in Otter Tail Co. MN. I am trying to get a handle on these Beckman girls, Emma, who married a Hardekopf and Eliese. The thing of it is I don't know why the person wrote Eliese Schmidt, nee Beckman & John Hardekopf's mother, Emma Hardekopf nee Beckman were sisters. Supposedly, Emma (11/30/1874-9/13/1950) married a Claus Hardekopf and had the following Children: John, 1898 Alma Betty Herbert. I can't seem to get a handle on this family at all, maybe you can enlighten me? Any help would be appreciated! Kay Marie
Hello Genie, Thank you for your reply. The only connection I can see is a Beckmann name on two sides of the Elbe River NW of Hamburg, Germany in those specific towns - Bruensbuttel and Oederquart, which looking at the map are joined by a main road and the waterway. Good searching on your lines. My grandfather was Hans Friedrich Jankowski and he was born on July 3, 1910 and died on March 16 1977. I think that he was born in the town of Schwabstedt, I know that he lived there for many years with his wife and children until moving to Schleswig, where he lived until he died. I know that he was trained and worked as a painter and that he was sent to Russia to fight in WWII. He married Marie (Andresen?), who was born on October 25 1909 and they had two sons, Uwe Heinrich Jankowski, born on September 7 1943 and Hans Jürgen Jankowski, born on September 10, 1950 (I think.) Any help you would be able to give me in my research would be greatly appreciated - I read German, but just don't speak/write it so well, so feel free to write in German or English. Thanks!
