Julie, "daselbst" in that means exactly what you said: in that same place as mentioned before. Has anyone got a sketch or picture of Tueffles? I'd like to include it in my family book. Lore has it that this all the gggrandparents wore. (Not literally). Thank in advance for your help.
I know that the definition of "daselbst" is "here, at that place, there", but what does it imply when used in a baptism record (i.e. legitimate daughter of the worker "daselbst" [father's name])? thank you! Julie Ploehn-Vigna
Hello, the word "daselbst" means "there" or "in that place". As an exemple: The child was born in Flensburg and baptized "daselbst", which means, also in Flensburg. Pat, The LDS Church has microfilmed the Meldorf Evangelical Church Records. There is a christening, death and marriage index. The records are also available on microfilm. Was your Holling family Lutheran? If so I would recommend that you find these records on the LDS Family History Center Library Catalogue, <A HREF="www.familysearch.org"> www.familysearch.org</A> and order the H and the L index films from the nearest Family History Center. I have had great success with these records. Bob Christiansen

Surnames: LAUSEN, SONN Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/kVC.2ACE/3354 Message Board Post: Am looking for information on Christian Heinrich Lausen, born around 1823, from Schleswig-Holstein, who immigrated to the U.S. in 1854-1855. He departed in 1854 on the Hampton from Schleswig in Schleswig-Holstein. He died around 1895 in Galveston. Also, looking for information on Dorothea Maria Sonn Lausen, born around 1831 who, I am fairly sure, was also from Schleswig-Holstein. Am not sure of year of immigration, but am guessing it was around the mid-late 1850s. She died on October 4, 1895 in Galveston. Christian Heinrich and Dorothea Maria were married on January 23, 1862 in Galveston, Texas. They had five children before they divorced around 1880. If you feel you may be a descendant or distant relation of one of these individuals or if you think you may have further information on either, or both, of them, especially on their lineages and/or their lives before their immigration, please let me hear from you! Thanks!

According to "Germans to America" my ancestors sailed to the United States on the E. Brockelman from Hamburg to NY, arriving in NY August 22, 1864. As of yet I have been unable to find any information on the ship; E. Brockelman. Research has included all the ship list web sites that I know of. Has anyone heard of this ship? Or other suggestions to explore? Jerry Riessen

We are still searching for our long lost Marcus Holling who was born 20 July 1828 in Meldorf , Holstein, Denmark.. Now part of the Schleswig-Holstein area . The date of birth & place of birth for Marcus came from His own documents. His father was listed a Paul W. Holling And his mother was listed as Anna Laackman We have looked for records of this family and have not found Anything. I found in the IGI this morning a marriage entry as follows: Anna Laackmann / Paul Jahn 10 Oct 1821 Meldorf, Schleswig Holstein Prussen Is it possible that the surname Holling could be a farm name ? I know in Norway That often the family would take on the farm name as a surname. Was that The practice in this area during this time? Pat Holling La Center, Washington USA
Dear Mr. Grolle, Both surnames (AHRENS and VOLQUARTS) are very common, and you need the name of the village or the name of the church parish if you are searching for your ancestors. In the online list of approx. 3.500 emigrants from Dithmarschen are 4 AHRENS listed, but only one of them made a application of emigration. The other left Schleswig-Holstein to avoid to serve in the Prussian Army. http://www.genealogy-sh.com/dithm/index.htm Please excuse me, but I offer no free-of-charge lookups in the church books. The North German church has its fee schedule online at: http://www.nordelbisches-kirchenarchiv.de/gebuehrenordnung.htm Regards, Hans Peter Voss
Dear Members, As you all know I act as archival custodian of the regional church records office of the "Probstei Rendsburg" (open on Tuesdays only) comprising the church districts of Hademarschen, Wacken, Schenefeld, Todenbuettel, Innien, Hohenwestedt, Jevenstedt, Bovenau, Hohn, Rendsburg-St.Mary, Rendsburg Christ Church and Hamdorf. As of August 15. I have been appointed as well as archival custodian of the regional church records office of South Dithmarschen (Suederdithmarschen), though at present only until the end of this year. In this connection I am primarily responsible for written enquiries and shall be present at the archives one day each week. On all other days the archives are open as well, though researchers have to depend on their own resources and can receive but limited or no assistance at all. In this regional church records office official records are available in the form of microfiche films, and researches are conducted with microfiche readers. Available are the parishes of Albersdorf, Barlt, Brunsbuettel, Burg, Eddelak, Haligoland (Helgoland), Hemmingstedt, Kronprinzenkoog, Marne, Meldorf, St.Michaelisdonn, Nordhastedt, Suederhastedt, Windbergen and Woehrden. Regards, Hans-Peter Voss
Dear Mr. Voss, I would appreciate it if you were to look for the names VOLQUARTZ and AHRENS in the Dithmarschen archives. Hi Julie, I attempted to borrow Schubert's books through interlibrary loan, but because of copyright conflicts, no books can be sent to the USA from Germany. This applies to photocopies as well. I have found that in the USA there are three libraries who possess Schubert's books: The Davenport Public Library's Special Collections Center owns these volumes: Band 3 - Propstei Rendsburg Band 4 - Probsteien Kiel, Plon und Segeberg Band 6 - Pobstei Oldenburg-Fehmarn Band 8 - Propstei Norderdithmarschen bearbeitet von Christian Griem Band 10a - Propstei Munsterdorf, Leif. 2: Raum Wilster bearbeitet von Wilhelm F. Behnke Band 14a-d - Altona mit Ottensen Their address is: The Richardson-Sloane Special Collections Center Davenport Public Library 321 Main Street Davenport, Iowa 52801 563-326-7902 FAX: 563-326-7901 scdpl@libby.rbls.lib.il.us They charge $3.00 per request. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Also Harvard Library owns many Schubert books. They charge $20 per request. Their address is: Interlibrary Loan Widener Library of the Harvard College Library Harvard University Cambridge, MA 02138 617 495-2431 (they have a webpage that you can find at google) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The other possibility is to order copies from the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah. Their photocopies are $4.50 per page. They own almost complete collections of Schubert's books. I don't have the mailing address, but an order form can be obtained from your nearest Family History Branch Center. The main libraries website is at: http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/default.asp At this site is a link to finding the nearest library to your location. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A fourth possibility is to contact the Immigrant Genealogical Society in Burbank, California. The main website is at: http://feefhs.org/igs/frg-igs.html The page for look-ups in Schubert books is: http://feefhs.org/igs/egma/egma-2.html Good Luck!
