Hi all, The following is a major brick wall for my family: Johann Hinrich Nikolaus MARTENS b: in 01 Jun 1846, Lieth bei Heide. Parents; Jurgen Hinrich MARTENS in Wesseln and Heinke Margaretha SCHODT/SCHOODT All children born in Australia. Johann left Schleswig Holstein via Hamburg with what is possibly his brother/cousin, Frans MARTENS in @1865 I have Johanns extract birth certificate which has the above parents on it but can not find much info on them. it also contains other people on it which reads as follows; Geoattern; Johann Peter SCHODT Nikolaus WITT Margaretha MARTENS Any information about this family or person would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Tony Martens
My ggrandfather was George Andersen, b. 31 Dec. 1852 in S-H. (He could also be Georg or Jorgen Andresen) He emigrated to the USA in 1879 to escape Prussian conscription. He was naturalized, and he farmed in the Town of Eaton, near Green Bay, Wisconsin. Both his gravestone and that of his wife are inscribed in Danish. My ggrandmother was Sophie Christensen, b. 28 Feb. 1860. According to her death certificate, she was the daughter of John Christensen and Margeret Hansen. Unfortunately, their place of residence was merely listed as <<Europe>> on the certificate. Sophie emigrated in 1882. George and Sophie may have married in 1882 in the USA because the census showed they had been married 18 years in 1900 and had had six children born and six children living. I have information on their children's children to varying degrees. Their children were Carl b Aug 1885, Olaf b Dec 1887, Margartha b Sept 1890, Hansthe (or Hans) b Oct 1892, Simon b Apr 1896, and Sophus dates unknown. I would like to know whether I can trace their families back any farther than I now know. Unfortunately, I do not at present have any information on their places of birth. I realize theirs were probably common names, but this limb of my family tree is, alas, the barest. I believe George was a sailor. My father said that George would twist baling twine into rope when he wasn't otherwise occupied. And does the name Fredriksburg mean anything? Thanks for this roll call! I look forward to learning a lot! Carol
Ggrandparents Charles William Siemsen b. abt 1819 came to St. Louis from Holstein abt. 1850. He married Catherine Brinker b. abt 1830, from Hannover. They were married in 1866 in St. Louis. Their children were: Julia, Anna, William, Peter and George. Have checked all obvious records in St. Louis for the name of the town of birth. Other Siemsen's in the St. Louis area at the time my family was living there, were from Lutzenburg, Oldenburg but have not found a specific connection.

I have just found out that my Scheel family is from the town of Satjendorf in Holstein. The Scheel family I am referring to settled in Plattesville, Grant County, Wisconsin in the mid to late 1860's. Specifically: Siblings Claus Heinrich SCHEEL b Nov 1843 Carl (Charles) SCHEEL, b. Feb 1845 Catherine SCHEEL, b. Abt 1849 came to the US on April 5, 1864 on the ship Teutonia out of Marseilles. (Have passenger list from NARA). The rest of the family arrived in New York later, on December 6, 1866, out of the port of Marseilles, ship unknown. Father Claus SCHEEL b. 1814 Mother Margaret (Unknown)SCHEEL, b. Abt 1816 Doris SCHEEL b. Abt 1851 Friedrich SCHEEL b. Nov 1858 Hans SCHEEL b.Nov 1848 Marie SCHEEL b. Abt 1847 . I have the info on this from "Germans to America", but NARA stated that they could not find the manifest. I am certain that Claus and Margaret are the parents of Claus, Carl, Hans, and Friedrich. I am awaiting documentation on the others mentioned above. Does anyone have any info on the Scheels from Satjendorf? Carl SCHEEL - in my direct line - married ( in Plattesville, Wisconsin) a Catherine SCHROEDER b.29 May 1847, Kiel, Holstein, d. 4 Feb, Russell Twp., Lamoure, ND. I have not been able to determine who her parents are as yet. Christina Scheel

Thomas Christian Iwers immigrated to US in 1888 with wife Maria Helena AUMUSSEN from S-W. They had a child, Christina, age 1, at the time. This family came with Catharina Helena GEFKE AUSMUSSEN, Maria's mother, to meet with her husband, Thomas AUSMUSSEN in Hawarden, Sioux County, Iowa. He had come to the area in 1887. Catharina's son, either by a previous marriage or born out of wedlock, Andreas Frederick GEFKE, who had come to the United States about 1885, first to Tama, IA, then to Hawarden. You mentioned Kiel Germany in your post. I have one "step" ancestor born near there. My husband's widowed great grandmother married Jurgen Krehn born June 3, 1843 in Hohenfelde, Holstein and was told that it was approx. 10 miles ENE of Kiel. And Kiel is about 60 miles north of Hamburg. So now I am concentrating my search for those ancestors departing from Hamburg. Hoped this might help you a little bit. Since the last post to this list, we are slowly hurdling that brick wall! In looking for our Neuhaus, have now also found Ohland. Marie Neuhaus (nee Ohland) was born 21 July 1835 in Stelle S/H which is just 15 miles south of Hamburg. She was married to Christ Neuhaus and there is a small village 30 miles SE of Hamburg. The family always said that Christ was from the village of Neuhaus but since there is more than one village by that name, did not know which one to search. So now we are sure that we have found the birth place for both great grandparents. And living so close to Hamburg, we will begin to look for them departing from Hamburg. They would have been married before leaving S/H since some of the children were born there before emigrating to the US about 1867. They were: Christian born about 1858 Johann born about 1859 William born about 1861 Hildebart born about 1866 Anyone else have ancestors born in that area? We might have found some others and will post them when we have more information. Names might be WILHELM FICK born about 1837 and MARIA TIMMERMAN. She was born Dec. 29, 1848 in Braumstadt/Bramstadt if that is in S/H. If Prussia was part of S/H then we also have Gutjhar and Normann. Elaine Larson Neuhaus

Hi, I'm particularly looking for the ancestors of Paul Asmussen (aka Paulus Erasmi) - my wife's direct paternal 8G grandfather. Paul was born about 1550 in Adsbøl and was a sognepræst there, 1551-1604. he married, about 1573, Elisabeth Petersen (~1554-1630) from Sønderborg, daughter of Nicolai Petersen, borger in Sønderborg. It is very probable that Paul's parents lived in Flensborg. It is speculated that his parents might be Asmus Festersen (or Feddersen) a slagter in Flensborg, and Marie (or Mariane) Hansdatter, daughter of Hans Jepsen, bartskær in Flensborg, and Margrethe ??? Gross speculation about Asmus' father suggests he might be a man called Fester Asmussen, aka Fester Foherman or Fohrman. Any insight into Paul's ancestors would be most welcome. Another 8G grandfather of interest is Friedrich Friedrichsen Klinge, born about 1585, Bysekretær i Flensborg, died 1637 in Jever, Østfriesland. There is some uncertainty who was the mother of his son, Anthon Klinge (born 1615 in Flensborg). It is possible Friedrich had two wives - Wibeke Hardenberg and Catharine Holst (from Koldenbüttel). Any information about Friedrich's wife/wives and/or parents would be very interesting. One more - this time a 9G grandfather, Peter Clausen, born about 1525, bogholder in Flensborg. Peter's son, Claus Pedersen (1555-1618) was "Land- og Tingskriver i Sønderborg". Any information about Peter's wife and/or parents would be very useful. Primary line: Zerrien or Serrien. Michel dob Sept 1745 in Mecklenburg. parents Lorenz Serrien & Anna Gretchen Schwartz. Michel moved to SH before 1789 and changed the spelling to Zerrien. He married (1789) Elsabe Hansen of Rodemis. She was the widow of Johann Hinrich Martens. The Zerriens were blacksmiths in Husum (Rodemis) until 1886 when my line of them came to the USA and settled in Clinton, Iowa. They were members of the Lutheran Church in Mildstedt in SH. Other names and locations: Christiansen of Grode and/or Langeness. Wirksen of Grode. Hansen of Habel. Jurgens of Halbmond. I would appreciate hearing from anyone with a connection. zeke in texas
Looking for information on: Charles Ludwig DOERING born September 1844. He married Christine abt 1862, and they both died in Oak Park, Cook County, IL in 1916 and 1917. They had 7 known children. Happy Hunting to everyone... Linda Dean
To review, I am looking for information on Claus Johann KOCK, born November 7, 1832, in Westerdeichstrich, Schleswig-Holstein, and christened in Büsum. His parents were Johann Hinrich KOCK and Elisabeth Katherina WEBER. Claus KOCK married Sophia DANE (although not sure of the spelling of DANE). Claus was evidently the second child of Johann Hinrich and Elisabeth Katherina, but I can find nothing else on this family. Claus and Sophia immigrated to America in 1883. Also, I am looking for Charles Thomas KOENCK, born to Thomas J. KOENCK and Telsche DRESDEN on January 22, 1871, in Hennstedt, Schleswig-Holstein. Charles immigrated to America in 1889. I would greatly appreciate any information regarding the siblings, children and ancestors of the aforementioned people. Thank you! Jeanne
