Ladies and Gentlemen: Have received a copy of "Topographie des Herzogthums Schleswig" by Johannes von Schröder (1854). I believe I have located Schwabstedt on pages 466-467, but am unable to locate Sipsdorf. Does anyone know what page this might be on, so I can get it translated? Thanks. V/r, Keith Freese

I am looking for information on the Stutzke family arriving in 1889 or 1890. Names and birth years are: Martin (approx. 1840) Wilhelmina (1836) Herman (1864) and wife Matilda (1869), children Eric (1888) and Marlene (1889) Ferdinand (1866) Freidrich (1871) Martha (1873) Based on the birth dates of Herman's children the immigration would be between 21 Dec 1888 (Eric born in Germany) and 21 Dec 1890 (third child Mary Mathilda born in Jordon Illinois). Family history (oral) says that Martin did not travel with the family but came later and died either on the voyage or shortly after arriving in America. Dear Listers, I will do look-ups for you here at the Family History Library in GERMANS TO AMERICA, if you can give me an approximate year of emigration. My time is limited, so I cannot do a lot of research for you. Also, I will search the Soundex to the 1900 census for your ancestor to find his/her year of emigration and then check the GTA books. Too bad that some of you cannot plan a trip to Salt Lake to the FHL, because there are periodicals, etc. for Schleswig-Holstein with more information. The Library Staff is taking a survey to determine what areas in Germany that patrons are researching, so that they can determine where to purchase more microfilm and books. I will be sure to add Schleswig-Holstein. The Family History Library adds about 400 books a month to their collection and many more microfilms than that. Hey Kimberly, Lots of Voss you will find on my website: http://www.voss-archiv.de/ ================================================================== <kwiar@cox.net> schrieb: Looking for ancestors of my g-g grandparents, Johann VOSS (b. 1804 in Holstein) and Catherine MILLER. I have info on my great grandfather, Wilhelm Heinrich, born in 1848 in Bernsdorf (I've seen other spellings), Holstein, and emigrated in 1860 with his father and two brothers, Henry (probably Heinrich), b. 1845 and August, b. 1853. The oldest brother, Frederick VOSS , b. 1841, emigrated in 1859 and settled in Plattesville, WI. He served in the WI cavalry in the Civil War, and married Minnie SPETH. They moved to Iowa to be near Johann and stayed there the rest of their lives. Johan's second wife was named Fredericka. Johann and the younger sons settled near State Center, Iowa where John and Fredericka are buried. Henry VOSS was living in Wisconsin in 1909; August VOSS married in State Center and was living in Council Bluffs, Iowa in 1909. Wilhelm VOSS was in St. Joseph, MO. Catherine VOSS remained in Germany and married a man with the surname of Koch. I assume that Catherine Miller died before the family emigrated but have no evidence one way or the other. Any info appreciated. Kim Voss Wiar kwiar@cox.net
I would appreciate a lookup of my ancestor, Charles William SIEMSEN, whom I believe came to the St. Louis area from SH about 1850. He probably came via New Orleans as many who were coming to St. Louis at the time did, although it's not impossible that he came to New York either. He was definitely in St. Louis in 1857. Thank you for doing these lookups for our benefit. Joy
I have my S-H ancestors' information on http://sdmbizlists.home.infionline.net/LotzGene.html I have found my great grandparents, Henry Lotz (b. 1845) and Geesche Mohn (b. 1845), on the ship manifests at the National Archives and am in contact with a distant "cousin" in Hamburg. However, I do not know where in Holstein Henry came from nor the parents of either Henry or Geesche. There is considerable information and pictures on my web site detailing my research and what I have found. This includes a probable brother of Henry's named Frank Lotz (b. 1843) and his family. Potentially valuable information is available about all these people in libraries in California. There are articles in local newspapers that have been indexed. Unfortunately a trip to California is about as likely as a trip to Germany for me. I notice .au and .nz return addresses. I have a picture of a boy about 4 or 5 taken at a studio in Newcastle, N.S.W. This came from the Lotz family album. There are no notes or annotations in this album so we don't know who most of the people are. This boy is likely a relation. The surname could be Lotz, Mohn, Diestel, Hansen, or Schrader, then again it could be something else. You can see the picture in the photo album in the above noted URL. Click on the picture of Henry and Geesche. Steve McLeod Broad Run, Virginia http://smcleod.home.infionline.net/ genealogy@broadrunit.com

If those you are putting their names on the SH roll call would either list the names in the subject line or at least list all the names first in the body of the email, it would save time scrolling through the whole page! Thanks, Elaine Larson Neuhaus
