    1. [S-H-RTS] Use of "en" endings in female surnames
    2. Bonner, Gregg
    3. Dear List, Could someone inform me as to the usage and rules of female surname suffixes? I have one family of LENTZ, where I have seen some of the females listed as "Lentzen". I have another family SCHLOSSER, where some of the females are called "Schlossern". Is the "en" added only to married females, or can it apply to maiden names also? Particularly, an old family Bible suggests that one ancestral surname is "Wheaton". Is this a German surname? I am trying to determine if it may not be the case that the name is "Witt", and thus the lady is 'Witten', rather than 'Wheaton'. Cheers, Gregg Bonner

There is a book at the FHL with people with that surname from an area in Eastern Holstein. For the woman, who is looking for a Frahm married to a Deertz, I checked the 1835 census for all Frahms, but I do not remember anyone with the maiden name Deertz. However, some of the married women with not listed with their maiden names. The Bergenhusen parish registers cover a lot of the 1700's and the 1800's and I plan on looking at these on Wednesday to extract more Frahm families. Both of their parents are Hans HInrich Frahm and Catharina Mahrt. Catharina's also married after the birth of her son Johann (1835). Hans was from Meggerdorf according to Johann's baptismal certificate. Don't spend precious time looking for them but if you should run across them and can pass it on I'd appreciate it. Thanks, Vicki

    3. I am re-sending this message without umlauts, because when I received my message back in the S-H Digest, it was impossible to read. SURNAMES I am researching - KRUCK, PIENING, KOSTER BRICKWALLS : Elsabe Margaretha PIENING and Hinrich KRUCK -- parents of Paul Diederich KRUCK whose christening record is below. I don't know their birthplaces, parents or ages. Musqu. Compag(nie) Oldenburgischen Regiments. Elsabe Margaretha PIENING may have married Israel Christian KOSTER in Rendsburg in 1802, and they may have had a daughter Johanna Margaretha KOSTER born abt. 1804. If that marriage took place, Elsabe's parents may have been Diedrich PIENING and Dorothea geb KUHL. Paul Diederich KRUCK married Catharina Dorothea LASS from Arnis at Eckernförde on 14 Jan 1827, and they had 5 children : Carl Dietrich KRUCK, geb. 14 Nov 1825 at Kiel [Carl Dietrich KRUCK, my greatgrandfather, migrated to Australia in 1863] Dorothea Henriette Christina KRUCK geb about 1827 at Eckernforde Anton Friederich KRUCK geb 1829 Beata Katrine KRUCK geb about 1831 Margarethea Friedrica KRUCK geb about 1833 (Margaretha married Peter Wilhelm BJERGSTED on 18 June 1856 in Copenhagen) I would like to trace any descendants of Carl Diedrich KRUCK's siblings listed above, and also trace his ancestors listed above. .
