Really a long shot, of course, but my g-grandfather was Peter Peterson/sen, born about 1832 in Denmark, but whether in S-H, I don't know. I found him in the 1880 census in Middlesex County, NJ with his wife, Mary (Jensen) , 32,and daughters, Clara, 2, and Edna/Edith, 6 months. Clara was my grandmother. Any chance of a connection? Kathryn
Test?? Nobody told me there was going to be a test!!! Do I need to bring a Number 2 pencil???

Hi listers, After several months of research we have finally received copies of the Hamburg Passenger List which shows the immigration of my husband's great grandmother, Ida Marie Heidemann Langrehr. She came in 1871 along with three children. The ship's list says she resided in Elmshorn. Have others had experience with ordering church records of this area. Is it likely that this was her birth parish or simply where she lived before immigration? Her husband came in 1870 and we are still searching for him in the HPL. Thanks for any direction you might be able to give us. Dotty Sprague Cole
I'm still seeking information about my Great-Granddad - Christen Pedersen/Christian Petersen. He was born November 3, 1861 - possibly around Hadersleben/Haderslev. Last probable record of him in the old country indicated he lived at Wandling (nearest town is Wilstrup and the Parish is probably Starup.) Hadersleben is now Haderslev in Denmark. His parents (according to his death certificate) were Cristen (or Peter) Pedersen and Mary Ellen Schmidt. Whether this is correct is unknown. His siblings included Peter, Claus, Jacob, Mary, Anna, Lizzie and Lena. Peter and Jacob came to American and stayed; Claus came over also but went back home. At least one sister came Stateside and lived in California. Chris married Hattie Neiswender while living in Kansas. They later moved to Oklahoma and both are buried at the cemetery in Fargo, OK. Does anyone have any hints on how to obtain more information from the old country or is there anyone out there who is related by way of one of Chris's siblings? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sheryl OK P.S. If your people happen to be from Schleswig-Holstein during the 1860's, there a wonderful search site that sure helped me. http://www.rootdigger.de/index.htm
Dear Listers, The list of names that I typed has nothing to do with a website. It is the index from this little green Heraldry Book at the Family History Library. The author of the book did some research on the various families in his book. I will do some copying of these families at your request, but you have to send me a stamped self-addressed envelope for me to send you a page or pages. With my work, as a professional researcher for my clients, I do not have time to translate the pages for you. Please use one of the good online translaters. I am confused! Are the AGGHS and AKVZ both transcribing the S-H censuses I noticed that both websites have a database started for census transcriptions. Julie
I have just started doing some family research in Germany. I have narrowed my search down to the city of Schwerin/M Gr, Moor 23 (taken from a 1924 ship manifest) and the family name is Steinmann. When I began this search I was told to look at Schleswig-Holstein. I am totally confused as to the relationship of these two area. Are they one in the same? Are there any maps available which would show this house/street address? Where and how do I go about researching in this area for vital records? Thank you, Mary ===== MY WEB PAGES: http://genealogy2002.tripod.com http://communities.msn.com/genealogy2000 __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? does anyone know why my e-mails sent to the S-H mail list are suddenly appearing with weird characters in place of spaces and letters with umlauts (see below sample)? Dear Listers, The list that I typed was not my own ancestors, except in a few cases. These are surnames with shields (heraldic) that the author of this little book researched. If you are interested in one of these pages, please send me a stamped self-addressed envelope and I will make a copy of that page. I do not guarntee that you will find your own ancestors places of origin on these pages, but it did give me a clue on my LOEBKENS shoemaker from Heide and that he was from Delve parish. My address is Mrs. Karla Nurnberg, 3485 West 8245 South, West Jordan, Utah 84088-5135. To Hans with the KAEHLER LINE, Where is your KAEHLER family from in Schleswig-Holstein? I recently posted to the list about my Hans Christian KAEHLER/KOEHLER. He was born in Heikendorf area near Kiel. Thanks for this great list.
