Hello Listers, I have recently discovered that my ggggf was born in Ratzeburg. It would have been about 1790, since his first son was born in 1817 in Segeberg. Does anybody know where birth, marriage and death records for the town, not the principality, for that period might be stored? Or does anybody know a library, probably in Germany, which has the book: Die Neubürger der Stadt Ratzeburg von 1601 bis 1871, by B. Raute, Lauenburgischer Heimatverlag, Ratzeburg i. Lbg, (1933)? The first rule of German research is to write to the church in the town, in your case Ratzeburg and Segeberg. You find their addresses using http://members.cox.net/hessen/telephones.htm . You need to know their faith (Catholic or Evangelical). Be sure to evaluate the entire page. For books I turn first to http://google.com and type in a few search terms. :-) Don ----- Original Message ----- From: "Levy, Justin" <Justin.Levy@Jacobs.com> Does anybody know where birth, marriage and death records for the town, not the principality, for that period might be stored? Dear Joachim, I belong to the German Genealogical Group and we have interesting lectures at our monthly meetings. We also receive a monthly newsletter! One piece of information that we were told is that if you are looking for military information, you have to look for it at the location where the person mustered out of the service. I do not know how you find out where they were when they left the military, but that is where you have to search! Good luck to you! Ghyll
============= Hello Listers, who knows where to find further informations on the german anti-aircraft forces during ww II on scicily. And what kind of course the soldier might have joined in 1943 in Halle / Saale. The 'Wehrmacht Auskunftstelle' WaST in Berlin couldn't help me much. They only told me start - end of service. Joachim =============== Researching military records in the U.S. isn't any easier. The military records center in St. Louis said they did not have any records at all for my grandfather who collected a pension based on his service. I found him in the Marine Corp muster roll at the National Archive in Washington, DC. If the German military kept a periodic accounting of the men in each unit and filed that away then that is probably where you will have to look. That Marine muster roll I looked through is on microfilm and is not indexed. I looked through it one month and one name at a time till I found my grandfather in Company A, 1st Marine Battalion, at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba in June and July 1898. You may have to do something similar. Steve McLeod Broad Run, Virginia http://smcleod.home.infionline.net/ genealogy@broadrunit.com

This is my first message to this particular site. I am looking for information on my great great grandfather JOHANN or JOHN LOTH and his family. This family emigrated from S-H to America in 1857 from Dersau, Schleswig-Holstein through Hamburg. They immigrated to Kendallville, Indiana and then moved further west in the U.S. JOHANN married DORTHEA KRUSE. They had four children, FREDRICKA, MARIE, WILHELM and CARL prior to leaving Germany. This was a protestant family. Where would civil and church records for Dersau be located in S-W? I understand using the LDS library, I just need to know WHERE the records might have been housed. I would also appreciate any additional information on the LOTH family in Dersau or that area. Thank you. I to am searching the Frahm connection. My Ggrand mother was Anna Margaret Frahm from the town of (Dransau) I believe that is the correct spelling. She married John Peter Kohl from Laboe. Might this be a connection
