    3. I'm not sure what "a/a" means after Margaretha Rohwedder in your posting. However I do have a Margaretha Rohwedder, daughter of Marx Johannsen Rohwedder and Catherine Dethmann. Marx and Catherine emigrated from Gaushorn, Diethmarchen, Schleswig-Holstein in 1852 with six or seven children. Margaretha was the first one born in the USA, in Cook County, Il in 1854. So she may be a namesake of another Margaretha Rohwedder. In some information that came from a researcher in Germany there is a Margareta Rohwedder born 31 March 1820 in Wrohm Ksp.,Tellingstedt,Holstein. She is the sister of the above mentioned Marx Johannsen Rohwedder. Let me know if you think this connects. I'll be happy to send you what info I have. I do believe that it was a sailing ship that they came over on. I am interested in hearing from you. Regards Ronald Kummerfeldt

    2. Klaus Timm
    3. Dear Dean, my comment to your research for the birthplace of Claus Rohwedder is: "Von-der-Geist" probably means "Von der Geest". As you know that the County of Dithmarschen is devided into the flat area called "Marsch" and the hilly area called "Geest". Some towns have had different administrations like Meldorf-Marsch and Meldorf-Geest. So the name Geest gives not a town name. As you can see from my list of Rohwedder-emigrants in http://genealogy-sh.com/timm/index.htm that Rohwedder families lived in some towns of Dithmarschen County. The passenger lists of the port Hamburg show the last residence of the emigrants, not the birthplace. Gro?enrade belongs to the parish of Suderhastedt. Therefore my recommendation is to start your research at Suderhastedt and continue at the parishes along the border between Marsch and Geest, like Meldorf, Nordhastedt, Burg in Dithm. and Albersdorf. Good luck Klaus Timm -----Ursprungliche Nachricht----- Von: G. Dean Rohweder [mailto:rohwedgd@dpc.net] Gesendet: Donnerstag, 22. I can not find any reference to Von-der-Geist. The obituary also states that he immigrated to American in 1866 and from the ships register for the Germania we find a: C. Rohwedder, age 21, from Grossenrade which I believe is S.E. of Meldorf. He was a stone mason and he could have been living at Grossenrade when he emigrated from Schleswig-Holstein....which could explain the difference. Can anybody help me with deciphering the reference to Von-der-Geist. Danke Dean Rohweder

    2. Dotty Cole
    3. Hi folks, I am still searching for available records for my husband's great grandparents who immigrated in 1870-71. Henry (Probably Heinrich) Langrehr came in 1870 but we have not found him on the Hamburg Ship manifest lists. Ida Marie Heidemann Langrehr came in 1871 with three children. We have found her on the Hamburg lists which say she came from Elmshorn. Can someone give me an idea about what records might be available from Elmshorn for this period other than the church records and census records filmed by the Latter Day Saints? We don't know whether either of them were born in Elmshorn, but their children might have been. Did they need to get permission to leave the country? Are their employment records? Anything else? Here is what we have been able to put together so far from U.S. census records and the Hamburg ship manifest: 1. HEINRICH HENRY2 LANGREHR (UNKNOWN1) was born Abt. February 1840 in Hamburg, Germany. He married IDA MARIE HEITMANN Abt. 1860 in Germany, daughter of UNKNOWN HEITMANN. She was born Abt. July 1839 in Possibly Elmshorn, Holstein, Germany. 2. M. Crossland
    3. Hello Ivan, My grgrandfather was friends with a Baron Detlev von Liliencron in Hamburg - Rahlstedt, where he died and is buried a few feet away from my kin's grave. This Detlev was born in 1844 in Kiel, died 1909. I have a little booklet on him in German. He was Soldier, Vogt in Pellworm and Kellinghusen and a much revered Poet. I have his birth certificate printed in a book, easy to read. I realize that he is not the one you are looking for, but thought that there might be a connection. He could have been a namesake of a relative 2 generations before? If your Detlev died in 1749 he was only about 25 years old. I wonder how he became Rittmeister and Master of Schirnau at such an early age. Inherited the lot? I went to familysearch but somehow only came up with what I had. I wonder how Ron did get 13 Liliencron's. I know someone who might be able to give me more info backwards on my Detlev . Am going to Germany in 5 weeks. Let me know what you think. 1. [S-H-RTS] Lotz and Mohn
    2. I have the same basic problem as the Riss researcher with my great grand parents, Henry Lotz and Geesche Mohn. There is a death notice in the local newspaper for Henry but no death certificate and no idea who his parents might be or where he came from other than the census which says "Holstein". Geesche has both a death certificate with her father's name and a death notice so there is some clue for her. What provides hope at this point is that I have found a prospective brother for Henry by just reading through the census one name at a time where Henry lived. I have searched the U. S. census and the ship passenger lists at NARA, California death index, death notices in local newspapers, etc. etc. If you are interested in the details of my search check either of the web links noted below. The places I've looked and the methods I've used. There might be some ideas. I have identified records that should add important details, but they are in California and I am in Virginia and I can't get anyone's attention in California to retrieve the records. This is a work in progress and there are likely to be some updates in the next week or two. This from my research and not from the stuff in California:-( Steve McLeod Broad Run, Virginia http://sdmbizlists.home.infionline.net/LotzGene.html http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~smcleod/LotzGene.html genealogy@broadrunit.com

I believe Fred's full legal name was Asmus Herman Fredinand Wulf, but I am not certain that is the correct order. I also am not certain if it was "Fredinand" or "Ferdinand" - it could have been mis-spelled. Fred was born circa 1854, left Germany at age 15 to go to sea, and settled in Oregon USA circa 1889. He married in 1891. I have no information other than this about his parents or past family in Germany.
