Her father was Johann Bollen ( no dates ) Her mother was Magdalena Piening ( 1739 - 1780 ) We would be grateful for any correspondence in this matter It can also be in the German language. Tschüss, Hannes Jansen jansens@omcs.com.au
I was able to obtain birth, marriage and death copies from Kiel, Flensburg and Elmshorn by writing to the churches and sending as much information as I had on my great-grandparents, they all send me the copies( for a price) and often send me information of some of the relatives, also the archives on those cities have been very helpful. One thing I have on my favor all of them were pastors and their and professors. Hope this helps. Ida Francke Hall Burbank,Ca.
Hans Peter Thankyou for this information. SAD very sad, we only have 75 years hold on ours here. And for people whose family gone that is to long. Susi in San Diego, Ca SusiCP@aol.com
Hi all, In the hopes that something new has turned up, I'll post again. I'm looking for information on the special imperial cavalry contingent from Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf sent to help the during the War of Spanish Succession. They fought in today's southern Germany and also in Alsace-Lorraine. My ancestor was the cavalry captain Georg Andreas HARTWIG, born about 1666, died 1736 in Birkenau, Kreis Heppenheim, Hessen. We believe he was not from S-H (he was a lieutenant in Wolfenbüttel in 1701, but we don't have any further information about origins). He had a number of children during his time in the military (1703-1712), but I don't know where to find any of their birth records. Ideas? Ideen? Hello Susi, I have used the wrong words! What I wanted to say is: It is not allowed to research relatives by using the church books and/or the civil registry records in the time frame 1876 until today. I list the law in parts: === A - Civil registry office The right to have issued the documents and/or provision of information from the register is limited to those relatives of direct ascending or descending lineage. Siblings, children of siblings, siblings of parents or grandparents and other distant relatives of the specific person, do not belong to the group of people given access to these documents, unless they can prove to authorities to have a legal interest. If an applicant needs these documents and/or information not for a legal claim, but for private research purposes, then legal interest cannot be implied from article 5 of the Basic Law; the right to free research is limited when it involves third parties. Only with appropriate consent by the individual, the spouse and/or the ancestors or descendants can an applicant, who does not belong to this group of relatives, be issued a document or other information pertaining to this person. B - Church records With the empirical law on registration of births, marriages and deaths the meaning of the church book as official register expired as of 1.Januar 1876. The entries in the church books since then, only record the official religious acts; therefore issue of official documents is exclusively done by the Civil Registrar's Office. Access to thus permitted only if the inquiry refers to religious actions. Additionally, several different criteria must be fulfilled for the use of church books prior to 1876: - The entry refers to the individual, their spouse or ancestor. (para. 9 (1) ArchivG) - or - The person can make a legal and valid claim regarding an entry - or - The use serves a concrete scientific or community service project Because genealogical research serves exclusively personal interests and not documentation of religious acts, the use of church books after 1876 for this reason is not permitted. (Exception: Proof that official Civil Registry documents were lost or destroyed) === A more detailed text to this is online here: http://www.genealogy-sh.de/E/law.htm === Regards, Hans Peter Voss
Good Morning I have just read the information supplied by Hans-Peter Voss. I qualify on all counts: my grandparents lived in Kiel most of their lives ( One set of grandparents from before the First War, and the second from just after the First War.) Yet I cannot get any information from any record officer in Kiel. There should be records since all the grandparents died between 1946-1980 Any suggestions? Rolf.
Searching for my great grand-mother KELTING, she is listed in the USA after 1852 in various records with given names of Henrietta, Clementine and Catharine, in one instance all name are given. She married Gustav, Karl, Adolph [von] Mechow. He was stationed in Rendsburg, Schleswig-Holstein where he signed documents as a Lieutenant as v. Mechow. He married Kelting some time in 1850-51 and came to the USA. In US 1880 census records Henrietta Kelting lists her origin as Hamburg. I am looking for Birth Records for Kelting. Marriage records for both of them. And immigration records. If anyone has information on either of these ancestors - I would appreciate hearing from you. Gustav von Mechow was born in Lauban Prussia in 1828 to Hienrich Wilhelm v. Mechow and Johanna Friederick Sonderop. Thanks. Ted Have a Great day & Praise the Lord for all he has done for us! Dear Members, It seemed to be very quiet on this list at the present time. But we have 668 subscribers at the present time! So feel free to post some info about your family-research - maybe someone has the same ancestors as you. Post the names of your ancestors, the name of the villages and a time frame of your search too. I did this in the last days on a German Mailinglist, and found a new long distant relative. He sent me a lot of info about distant relatives, of whom I did never know anything before (the research of relatives is not allowed in Germany, so I had no chance to find them without the help of distant relatives). I wish you luck in your research. By the way - I have a new layout on some of my websites: My family-tree is here: http://home.t-online.de/home/hans-peter.voss/voss/e/index.htm My sites about genealogy in Schleswig-Holstein are here: http://www.genealogy-sh.com/index.htm and here: http://www.hans-peter-voss.de/gen/e/index.htm Regards, Hans Peter Voss - Listowner SH-ROOTS
Hans Peter Voss Please explain Germany does not allow research of family? Susi
Klaus Riecken, thank you for this website. It is one youcan loose yourself in. Some stories of my ancestors make more sense now. Komplizierte Geschichte! I appreciate any link that comes my way, don't spend much time surfing. Thank you again Margarete C. AZ
Dear Max Guldberg, Heidenreich, Heydenreich or Heydenryke are old farmer families of the Krempermarsch area since 500 years. If you want to find old documents of the family you must look for old estate contracts in the Schleswig-Holstein Archives of Schleswig. An old beautiful Heydenreich farmhouse of 1711 was rebuilt in the farmhouse museum of Molfsee near Kiel. Klaus Timm

Esther: I have a Martin SKOW in my tree, too, but he was U.S. born (Iowa, 1872), "baby" brother of: Jorgen Nissen, my grandfather Nis, Theodor, and Christian, who were all born in Oster Lindet. Their mother was Kirsten Marie MIKKELSEN (b. abt. 1840, place not yet known), 2nd wife of Jorgen Nissen SKOV, who was born in Bjerning, 1804. The elder Jorgen had an earlier wife, Anne Dorthe WIBORG, and that union produced about 14 children - all born in Bjerning - including two Marens (b. 1830 & 1835) but no Martin. My elder Jorgen appears to be the first to use the SKOV / SKOW / SCHOU name. He was son of Nis Lauesen (b. 1751, Bjerning) and a Catharine Marie Christensdr. Earlier than that becomes confusing, but Nis Lauesen appears to be the son of Laue Nissen (b. 1730, Bjerning) and a Maria Pedersdr. My research had had me coming across "those other Iowa Skows" for some time now. I regret that I haven't kept better track of them. I'd be happy to share the details of "my" SKOWs if you're interested. --RB Martinez, CA
