    2. If your email address has changed since you signed on to the list you need to include that address in the message section with your unsubscribe message. I ran into that problem when my service provider changed from attbi to comcast. I kept sending the unsubscribe message from my comcast address and it kept coming back saying I could not unsubscribe. When I included the old address (it took me awhile to figure it out - slow learner) I immediately got a reply that I was unsubcribed. Good Luck, Dave Rohrer > you need to go to the SCHLESWIG-HOLSTEIN-ROOTS-L-request@rootsweb.com and > write unsub in subject line .. standard procedure on any list must change url to > original url and then say unsub like you said subscribe to join in reverse. 1. [S-H-RTS] Help with surname SPADEMAN
    2. Corradini
    3. Hello Fellow Listers: Researching in Germany is a whole new area for me and I was hoping some kind soul could point me in the right direction. I am researching the surname SPADEMAN in the UK and have discovered a Frederick SPADEMAN in the USA who gives his place of birth as Schleswig-Holstein, 1825. Where would I begin to search, should I hire a researcher instead, or is this too broad an area? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Happy hunting to the rest of you as well, Sandra Cranston

    1. [S-H-RTS] Berner/Speck Mid 1800's
    2. Ron & Kathie Groll
    3. Great grandfather Heinrich (Carl Heinrich Christian) Berner was born March 11, 1838 in Lodenburg, Holstein married to Eliza W. Speck, born September 4, 1845 in Lansbuttel unf Meldorf. Eliza had a brother named Joachim William Speck, born 1843. They were married circa 1867, I'm assuming in Germany, because I have a picture which I think may be a wedding picture taken at Spielbudenplatz No. 24, St. Pauli, Hamburg. They immigrated to the US about 1867, settling in Chicago where Heinrich died in 1877. Children were Anna, Charles, William and Otto Berner. Do these names sound familiar to anyone? 3. Hello Gloria, The church parish NORDHASTEDT has one photo of their church online at: http://www.kirche-dithmarschen.de/gemeinden/nordhastedt/ The district Dithmarschen is divided into two church-districts, as Northern-Dithmarschen, and Southern-Dithmarschen. See: http://www.kirche-dithmarschen.de/norddith.htm and http://www.kirche-dithmarschen.de/sueddith.htm The records of the northern part are available for research in HEIDE, the leader of the archives is Mr. Duncker. The records of the southern part are availabe for research at the Rentamt in MELDORF. Mail sent requests for research for southern Dithmarschen will reach me, as I am the archival custodian of the regional church records office of South Dithmarschen. The LDS has filmed most all records of Dithmarschen, but only prior to 1800. So if you can read the old script, you can order the films at your local LDS center. Regards, Hans Peter Voss

    1. [S-H-RTS] SCHOU 'Schleswig' before 1880
    2. Lloyd Mitchell
    3. Thanks for the reminder, Hans-Peter! As the list is still quiet, may I send the following. Apologies for anyone who has read a version of this post on the DK list. I joined this list looking for details of my ggrandmother, Johanne Marie SCHOU, although with no success so far. However, I've now received some fresh information which may move things forward. I know that JM SCHOU was born on the 11 Aug 1865 in 'Schleswig', and was of Danish (definitely not German!) origins. Her father was Martin SCHOU (Seaman); her mother Helena (or Elena) Hansen (or Andersen). She emigrated to Australia in 1884. Family gossip had it that she'd gone to join her two brothers. I've recently been contacted by someone to whom I may or may not be related, depending on what I discover next. This person is descended from a Knut SCHOU, born 30 Mar 1859, Oster Gammelby, Wiesby Parish, Tønder District (now back in Denmark of course). Now Knut SCHOU also emigrated to Australia and was in the same area of Melbourne, Australia, at the same time as Johanne Marie and, more significantly, his parents are given as having the same names. They both seem to have been connected to the Westgarthtown German settlement. Could someone possibly check the church records or census, if they have copies, for this village or area to perhaps establish if there is any connection? Neither of these names appears to have been included on the Danish transcription site yet, nor any of the on-line emigrant lists, and I don't have ready access to an LDS centre to check this for myself. Basically, I've just received this information and am hoping for a quick result from someone! I'll be *very* grateful. Regards Lloyd

I have a record of a Claus Michelsen Hartwig, born about 1575 in Rønne, son of Michel Augustin Hartwig and "Unknown" Clausdatter Kames, marrying a distant cousin of my wife about 1622. 3. -- Good Morning I have been reluctant to post, but I will try. Looking for Information on the Ruge line . Margaret b. 10 Sept 1846 , No 2 Wife of Johann Wolff Wright Country MN, and Jacob b. 06 Sept 1849 , Wife: Marie Welsterman, and came to Wright County Minnesota. Some information I have may be correct and some may not. Father: Hans Ruge (1816-1865 ) Mother: Wiebke Christine Warner. There could be a brother Marx. May have went to Australia. Also have interest in Johan Buckmann and Fredericke Buckmann, No 1 wife of Johann Wolff. I think the list for them would be Ueckermunde and or Frederickshof if there is such a list. Maybe Mecklenburg would match better. I would like to verify this and possibly find our origin in Prussia. 1. [S-H-RTS] Island of Foehr
    2. Hello, I have about 6,000 ancestors from the Island of Foehr on my website: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ccho/Cards/WC_TOC.HTM Most of the information came from church records. If you know your ancestors came from the island, the information may already be on my site. The people from this island emigrated primarily to New York, Iowa, and California. I believe many also went to South America and Australia. In the 1800's many of the men were sailors and sea captains, so they sailed all over the world. If anyone has additional information about the island, pictures, stories etc., please email me. Carol California
