Grandparents:- Willy Albert Carl JACOBI born 23rd September 1894 in Schleswig, and Marie Christine Dorothea SCHMIDT born 23rd June 1899 in Buschau and married 14th December 1919. G.Grandparents (parents of Marie) are:- Friedrich Detlef SCHMIDT and Maria(Marie} Henriette DAVID. I am quite curious as to how common these surnames are or if anyone on list have any relating to the above? Thanks in advance for any replys. Gisela Perth Western Australia

But, do you know what church he attended in the US? I have found that church records sometimes include birthplaces, either in memberships lists, or death (burial) records. 3. The simplest way to determine how common a name is involves using a search of telephone directories. The only problem is with the very common names and if Jacobi proves to be such a name (I doubt it) you will not be able to manage the results. This has the advantage that you can narrow things down by state or area code and in some cases even by town. Good luck,. Been there done that and have been happily rewarded. Dave Wulfman. 3. Ron, I am in the central part of Nebraska. There is a chain of stores in our area of the US called "Jacobi Carpet One". They may have a corporate website that you could e-mail to find out about the "founding family" of Jacobi's. Good luck! 1. Re: [S-H-RTS] Which Schleswig?
    2. jdbentz
    3. EE. Sharp.....nothing is easy. My guess is that the document refers to the city of Schleswig, formerly in Denmark.....now just south of the Danish border in Schleswig/Holstein. Go to your nearest LDS genealogical library. They have both church records and censuses available from Salt Lake City re the city of Schleswig. I've been there......and looked at census records in the archive at Schloss Gottorf. I'd try the census records first......they include place of birth for all persons listed and you can find the whole family and other information. Admittedly, you'll have to struggle with the old German script.....with a bit of Danish twist if the censustaker was a Dane. John

    1. [S-H-RTS] NERVENFIEBER
    2. Karla Nurnberg
    3. Dear Listers, My great-grandfather died in Nebraska of Nervenfieber. This was the cause of his death listed in the parish registers of Trinity Lutheran Church in Scribner, Nebraska. I looked it up in Thode's Genealogical Dictionary and it defined it as typhus. A more direct translation would be Nervenfieber. A cousin of mine told me that he went to a farm sale and it was raining and he caught pneumonia. Back in 1892 would pneumonia have been considered Nervenfieber? I am adding notes and sources to my family group sheets and I am not familiar with all of the medical terms just some of them. Thank you. Karla --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
