Try not looking for Germans to America. It might have been listed some other way. I could have been a town or a place or something. Len, I'm not familiar with the DDD database you mention; however, if you know the date of arrival in NY and the name of the ship, you should be able to find the family on the actual passenger list. The NY arrival lists are available through the branch LDS libraries. You can then see if Theodore is actually on the list. Have you looked for Theodore on the 1900, 1910 or 1920 census? They shouls list the place of birth. In doing some research for my son-in-law, I found his ancestor claimed to have been born in the US, but I found his baptismal record in Germany! He was born just before they left. You have to be careful. Ruth Rasch

Check the passenger records for New York and see if he shows up on the list. Naturalize citizens are listed as well as citizens and none natives. I was able to pick up my grreat grandfathers travels to Europe in 1914 as well as his immigration 50 yeasr earlier. They show age and with infants months are given. Dave len wrote: > Hi everyone. I just learned yesterday, from information on Klaus Struve's Website, that not only did my Gr Gr Grandmother Christina (Tolk) Hass come to America with her husband Marx Hass, but two of her sisters also came. They are: Anna Tolk who married Detlef Frahm. And Elsabe Catharina Tolk. If anyone knows anything about those women and their descendants, would you plese share the information. Many thanks, Portia
Hi everyone. I have been reading the messages here for over a year, it is quite a network of dedicated individuals. I have hit a wall and could use some help. My ggf, Julius Henrich Theodore Auchenberg emigrated from Copenhagen 1882 to New York. This is documented through the DDD Emigration Database. His wife Whilmenia Margrita Huntermark is probably from S-H region according to the scant info my dad told me. They had three children Theodore, William, and Caroline. Theodore being my gf. Conflicting info has Theodore born in Denmark and the US. Any ideas on how to move on this are appreciated. Thanks Len Achenberg
Hello to anyone researching the Tolk Family. I am a descendant of a Tolk Family in S-H Germany, and following is all that I know about my Tolk Ancestors. (As well as my Hass Ancestors) This is information contained in the Marriage Register from The Parish of Kropp. (Lutheran Church) Marx Hass born February 18 or 19, 1836 and baptised February 28, 1836. His Godfathers: Marx Hass, (from) Holzbunge Johann Ewald, (from) Owschlag His Godmother: Trine Wulff, (from) Holzbunge His parents were Claus Hass (small farmer) and Tepke Margaretha (maiden name Ewald). Marx was a carpenter from Steensieck. Marx Hass and Christina Margaretha Tolk were married on January 8, 1869. She was from Booklund. She was born January 8, 1849 and baptised January 24, 1849. Her Godfather: Gerth Greve, (from) (K?)Cropp-Kathenausbau Her Godmothers: Catharina Margaretha Tolk, (from) (K?)Cropp Margaretha Greve, (from) (K?)Cropp-Kathenausbau Her parents were Peter Tolk (1/4 hide farmer) and Anna Maria (maiden name Uetermann). Marx and Christina came to the United States and settled first in Clinton Iowa, and then in Crawford County Iowa. They are buried in the Manning, Carroll county, Iowa, Cemetery. It is possible that he had a brother John (Johannes?) who also came to America. Don't really know for sure. Any information on any of these families is appreciated. Portia (Hass) Haynes

Christian Dockweiler first came to the area of Kropp in the Dutchy of Schleswig in 1761. He was married probably 4 times and left 13 living children when he died in 1810. One of his descendants Johann Dockweiler married Anna Thams in 1830. Three sons and one daughter of this marriage and a daughter of a later marriage all immigrated to America; first to Clinton, Iowa and then later to Crawford County in Iowa and Saunders County in Nebraska. My GGGrandfather Hans and his wife Marie Tolk lived in Crawford County and raised a large family in the mid to late 1800's. If you live in the Midwest, or Oregon or Washington and trace back to a Dockweiler this is probably your family. If you live in California thats a different Dockweiler family If anyone has any interest in this family I would love to correspond with you. If any one has any interest in the Tolk/Tolck family I would really like to talk to you. Especially if from St.Louis Missouri or in the area near Kropp in Schleswig. Larry Epling Moville, Iowa
Hi, I am looking for any info on my ggfather & ggmother. My grandfather Adolf Rickert came over on the Normania to ellis island on April l8, l892 at the age of l7. He then went to illinois to make a home. Records show he came from Schleswig-Holstein but they also mention Kleingladesbrugge. Is that in the same area? All I know about my ggparents I found in a baby book of mine lisiting the family tree. His name was also Adolf Rickert and her name was Sophia Kruse. I don't know if my grandfather had any other siblings. There are so many questions we wished we would have asked him. He died in l958 Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Donna Richards

First I would like to thank everyone that has helped me with this project, I would like to name names but sure as the dickens I would forget someone. Several German researchers have sent information, maps and census records and history of the area and Schleswig/Holstein. Many family members have sent family charts of their family surname and descendancy charts. To date 155 have pre-registered and who knows how many are just going to show up without registration. If someone wants to send me an E-mail about your family that you are researching from either the Giekau area or Schleswig/Holstein that involves one of these family names I will put it on the board and on the family table for all to see. The names are: Bichel, Carstens, Dorhman, Dorman(n), Dose, Doose, Dohse, Ehlers, Giese, Hammer, Hansen, Jurgens (was Jurgensen), Kay, Kahl, Kruse, Lamp, Lau, Loof, Luth, Matthiensen, Möller(Miller), Müller,Nagel,Nipp, Rohrberg, Roenfeld, Roenfeldt, Scheel, Schoening, Schroeder, Schutt, Steffens, Strohbehn, Stumpf, Thiering, Vohs, Voss, Wiese,Wolf,Wulf. There may be more but this is what we have so far with a Giekau, Mineola connection. There will be two sections for display one with each of the above families with a table for pictures, artifacts and genealogy material, the other part will be tables for the Friends and Neighbors of Giekau families to display just genealogy information. This table could have information on it from Selent Church District, Lutjenburg Church District, and the Probstei area. If you want to have something on one of the tables it is not to late. Send it to me and I can print it off. Dear Keith: Bring it along, The Friends and Neighbors tables are for Just family tree stuff but if there is room we can slip in some pictures. Gary
Gary, Congratulations on the anticipated turnout! I'd planned on bringing a notebook or two on the Brandt family (my "Brandt" family history book, my Brandt ancestry tree, and a few photos). It's all genealogy information. After re-reading your message below, I just wanted to confirm that these things are okay to bring and to make sure I'll have a small section of a table someplace.
