    3. I have some Mohn's in my family back to the 1600s but they are from Switzerland. Do you go back that far? Valerie sdmperlists@broadrunit.com wrote: I haven't posted for awhile. I'm still trying to find where my great grandfather, Henry (Heinrich) Lotz came from in Holstein. I have some circumstantial evidence that indicates he had two brothers or otherwise close relations in California at the same time. I have not found parents or origin for any of the three as yet other than Holstein. I am close to exhausting the possible sources. I haven't gotten Jacob's death certificate as yet and there is an obit for Henry I need to send for. I had hoped to get copies of Frank and Jacob's declarations of intent to become a citizen, but these were filed in the state court in San Francisco. All of these records were lost in the 1906 earthquake and fire. You will notice that I have found Frank and Henry in the ship passenger arrival lists at the National Archives. Maybe there are departure records in some European Archive? I do have my great grandmother's origin which is Seestermuehe, Holstein, Germany. This is a small place near Elmshorn. Are there parish records or census lists for this place? Where would these be found? Everyone left for America before 1870 so I'm not interested in records after that date. My great grandmother's name could be Laura Augusta Mohn. Most records name her Geesche Mohn. In the 1880 census she is Augusta and in the 1900 census she is Laura. 2. Hi Dena, As far as I am aware, Humber is as English as the Humber river that goes back into antiquity. However, it pronounces equally well in German, so it could have a German equivalent. If you have not checked www.humber-genealogy.com, there's a host of info there. Good hunting. BIll Jones.

    3. I´m a norwegian lady and new to this list, and I hope anyone will be so kind to help me find information about my great-grandmother, Auguste Amalie Ludwig (Ludrvig), born April 17, 1849. Possibel place of birth is Naurnburg (Nürnberg?) - Bavaria. She married Nils Fredrik Just b. 1859, Christiansand, Norway. They got two sons: Sigurd Harald Just b. 1891 and Sverre Brynjulf Just b. 1892 - both born when the family was in Lübeck. I believe the parents got married in Germany, possibly in Lübeck, as well. N.F. Just was a trader and was doing business in Germany. They went to Oslo, Norway, some time before 1900. Auguste Amalie Just, born Ludwig, died in Oslo 1937. I´m the granddaugther of Sverre Brynjulf Just. I have his baptismal certificate that says that he was christened in the evang.-lutherischen St. Marien Kirche in Lübeck on October 12, 1893. The wintesess was: Johan Franz Just, Clara Hempel, Juline Just and Axel Fhörnlöf. Does enyone know who Clara Hempel and Axel Fhörnlöf are as well? I do hope that anyone have knowledge about Auguste Amalie Ludwig and her family! Thanks! Kindly regards Cathrine Just, Oslo

    1. Boren, Germany
    2. Hi, I am new to this list. I believe I have just found the birth place or the place that my ancestor once lived. His name is Conrad Humber born 1829 in Boren, Germany. I do not know when he immigrated to America or if he was with other members of his family when he immigrated. He was in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1862, that is where his son John was born and in Bloomer, Wisconsin in 1880 (possibly before 1880). He married Cunigunda Hetzler date and place unknown. She came from Hemhophen which is a completely different district than Boren, so I think they married after they were both in the U.S. Can somebody please tell me about this area and if there are anymore Humber families there? Humber could have a different spelling. Thank you for your time, Dena P.S. I always thought Humber was an english name. Conrad Humber was Catholic

    3. Hi Klaus, Thanks for the information. It is helpful, since I couldn't find it on the map either. I thought maybe i.d.Lund meant "in the south" or south of Schobuell....like perhaps an unincorporated area that just took the name of a local farm???? The Norwegians were great on this procedure! So why do they put i.d. in front the the name, Lund? Some year we hope to get to Germany and visit these areas of our ancestors. My sister and I have been working on the Norwegian side the past few years and we took a trip to Norway in 2001 after we had completed our research. We started on the German side about two years ago, but last year everything was put on hold when my son was dignosed with cancer and died 6 months later. So now I am getting back to research again. But we have a lot to research before we take the trip. We are pushing for 2006!!!! Thanks again. In her son's baptism record, Margaretha Loose is listed as having a birthdate of 26 May 1805 in Wewelsfleth. That is all I know of this ancestor. Is there some kind soul with access to records of this town/village/city who might be able to locate her birth record? In her death, she is listed with a religion of: Lutheran. I don't know how far a distance this locale is from the Hamburg area... She lived her final years as first: with Ockershausen, Johann Peter Martin in Hamburg and second: the Hamburg Poorhouse Thank you in advance for any suggestion and/or information! 3. With Ankesheil we ended up finding the spelling Hankshile in the 1850 Census. Fortunately a friend added the H in her search or we never would have fnd it. With Wulf we almost missed it when someone added a t to obtain Wulft which was way down the passenger list records. It was purely accidental that I hit on it. You should see what they do with the family Wleike when trying to read the old German handwriting. Remeber the American making a census entry of recording apassenger list puts down what he or she thinks they heard. If you ask a bunch of Germans having the surname Ankesheil who they are they would respond that we are the Ankesheiln. That is why we have 8 families in the New Orleans area with the plural formfor their last name. When writing home some Wolf familes added the plural form for the family and then were refered to as Wulves by translators. :-) Lots of luck.. Eugene M.
