I am researching my great grandmother Anna Sophia Christine Richter who was born in Weddingstedt, S-H, 28 March 1857. Her parents are shown as Johann Hinrich Bartholomanie Richter and Anna Maria Rhode (or Rod). The Godparents shown in the baptismal record dated 16 April 1857 were Anna Margaretha Beeck, Anna Cathatina Loose and Anna Elsabea Glöh. My GGM migrated to Australia with her parents in 1865 where she later married Heinrich Conrad Ludwig Randorf (or Randolf) who had migrated from S-H in 1863. Appreciate hearing from anyone whose research has shown up any of the above names in that area of S-H. Many thanks Warren in Australia

Roy S. I suggest you make an appointment at the church office. Many people speak English. Also, indicate the Neukirchen you want is Neukirchen/H, meaning it is located in Holstein. If possible search the Family History Center films before you go and take as much info you can with you. L

Their maternal surname was JUNGE (or similar). Karl was born in 1864, emigrated ????, and settled in Bolivia. Ernst was born in 1870, emigrated in 1892, and settled in Chile. Their father's initials were H.G. Or, possibly, H.J. Their mother's name was probably Anna, or some variant thereof. Karl and Ernst also had five sisters, who are believed to have remained in Holstein. Their names were supposedly: Anne, Martha, Bertha, Christine, and Helen (or variants thereof). I have searched for, but not found, Web sites dealing with the Wilstermann surname. If anyone is aware of any, I'd appreciate links. They are written in Suetterlin or the precursor to it. Also, I have eleven letters but most are written by different people. So I also have to learn each person's different handwriting. It is getting better. Each time I look at them I can read a little more and can figure out all of the names and places pretty well as well as the articles and conjunctions. Fortunately they appear to be written in High German and with good spelling but very little in the way of punctuation. This script has been teached in Germany until the 1950s I think. I started to teach myself reading this special script by writing it. Some people in my family are able to read the old letters. But even for them it is sometimes very difficult. Any help or enlightenment is always appreciated. I believe that you are correct that it refers to Lurup. It may be one of the Lurup roads mentioned or perhaps As the area got bigger the name probably changed. I got the name of the street off of a typed ship manifest which was probably made by a clerk reading people's handwritings. I am pretty sure that while the manifest said Timm for a contact in Germany, that it was actually Tonn. Recently we found very old letters (1891-1948)among my great-aunts things when she died. Most of the letters are written in the old German script so my transcribing and translating are going slowly. I am having to learn to read the old letters before I can try to understand what is written. Most of the places named in the letters appear to be in the Hoernerkirchen area as well as in Eidelstedt. I do know that at least one of Claus Thiessen's brothers lived in Eidelstedt as one of the letters states "Unsere Adresse ist An Huelfsweichensteller (maybe Hilfsweicensteller?) Wilhelm Thiessen in Eidelstedt bei Hamburg" I think that the "Eidelburg" may have been a memory problem of someone in my Grandma's generation. They were probably told "Eidelstedt near Hamburg" and it became Eidelburg in their minds. My Grandma's generation were not encouraged to learn German but rather to only speak English.
