Dithmarschen is a region. Suderdithmarschen means south Dithmarschen. Without a parish or town name, you may have trouble locating any records. Have a look here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dithmarschen for more information and maps. Mary Anne Jane Wintjen was my gt gt grandmother too. My mother's mother was Catherine Frances Ellett who died in 1971. Catherine's father was Herbert Harry Ellett and his father was William Ellet, married, of course to Mary Anne Jane. I have grown up close to Ellet side of the family. Until yesterday when I was at my mother's house I only had going back to William Ellett's father, Robert Gayler Ellett. We have always been stumped on the Wintjen side of the family. My mother had forgotten that one of the Ellett aunts had told her about a bit further back on the Wintjen family, my gt aunt Marjorie Ellett said that the Wintjen's were descended from the Magdaburg's, but we have no evidence. I have a lot of information on the Ellett side of the family if you are interested. I don't have much on Minnie Jane though, only from what I can gather from Census's and 'old family hearsay'. Lovely to find you! Regards, Sally Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Thank you Julie for the website, have looked it up and it is very informative. They did have another child born around 1815 a son died in1820 . Have not been able find Karl's death in the records. Ottine died 4 November 1843 record in St. Trinitatis Fredericia In the 1834 census Ottine is listed as a widow. My Buntzen was Maria Elisabeth Bunzen born about 1807 born in Friedrichsfelde. I'm not quite sure where that is/was. Stephen Pegler **************It's only a deal if it's where you want to go. Find your travel deal here. (http://information.travel.aol.com/deals?ncid=aoltrv00050000000047)
Hello Stephen, the Census 1845 of Boel lists a Rosalina Mecklenburg, aged 18, born in Wilster. And the Census 1845 of Dingwatt, Thumby parish lists the complete family, i.e. Napoleon Meklenburg, age 39, born in Blankenburg Maria Elis. Bunzen, age 39, born in Friedrichsfelde Jes Peter, age 9, Jakob Peter, age 7 and Johann Peter age 5 as their sons, all born in Boel. The church records of Boel have been microfilmed by the LDS Church. As the place of birth of the husband is given as Blankenburg the Boel records will provide you with the exact date of births but to go further back you have to look at the Blankenburg records. Blankenburg is in the Harz area in Sachsen-Anhalt. Dingwatt at that time had just 3 houses and belonged to the Thumby parish. But as the church in Struxdorf was nearer than the church in Thumby the people from Dingwatt may have gone to Struxdorf instead of Thumby so when you check the church records of Thumby check those of Struxdorf too (both are microfilmed just as the ones from Boel). Mecklenburg is a rather rare name for Schleswig-Holstein while Bunzen is more common. There is no Friedrichsfelde in that area but several places called Friedrichsfeld. There is one Friedrichsfeld in Schuby just a few miles west of Schleswig not too far from Thumby. The Census 1803 of Friedrichsfeld, Schuby parish, lists a Johann Ludewig Bensen and his family who could be the father of Maria Elis. Bunzen (don't mind the different spelling, it often changed when people moved ...). Aileen, Here is some information about the Denmark Military Records. It should give you a place to start in your search of Karl. http://homepage.mac.com/sootica/Sites/DenmarkFAQ/militaryrecords.html You can also get other research links from this website. I looked through St. Michaelis quickly. The last child I found was Louise Frederica born 10 Jul 1810. I also saw the birth records for Elisa Amalia, Carl Frederich and Johanne Conradina. I didn't see any mention of Karl's birthplace. Do you have any idea about the date of his death? or Ottoine's? I have traced my family the Wintjen's in London in the early 1800's. At the moment the only Wintjen I have, is Mary Ann Jane Wintjen born in Hackney (district, but think actually Stepney area) on 15th March 1844. She married my Gt. Gt. Grandfather, William Ellett and had 6 or 7 children. In the 1891 Census, William Ellett is registered as widowed, so Mary Anne Jane must have died in her early forties. The correct church parish is Hemme. Those records are not filmed for distribution in the USA so you can't peruse them yourself. But you may want to hire a researcher in Holstein to search the local archives and copy relevant records for you. I had to do something similar for my great-grandparents' records in Leck, which is in northern Schleswig, but it was worth the investment.
