    3. Hi, I've been searching for my Grandfather, Heinrich W. Jonas and recently found out he was born in Probstei in 1856. I have also found a Heinrich Jonas born in Fiefbergen which is very close to Probstei, abt 1828. I wonder if anyone could do a check for me and see if there are church records for those two places. Thanks in advance Pat Ferderer

    1. [SCHLESWIG-HOLSTEIN-ROOTS] Success in Lübeck
    2. David Armstrong
    3. G'day everyone, I thought I would share a recent success concerning my German ancestry with the list. My Great Grandfather Asmus Kunde was born in the parish of Zarpen near Lübeck in 1852. He went to sea and later settled in England. The LDS don't have the registers for Zarpen on microfilm but they do have the ones for Hamberge, the neighbouring parish to the south. From this, I picked up Asmus's mother's second marriage and also her burial. Both entries recorded that her eldest son, Hans Kunde (b: 1846), was living in Lübeck. The Lübeck Archives informed that they had the Probate Records for Hans Kunde and his wife. I was able to purchase a copy of the Testament which informed me that Hans had 11 children, 7 of whom survived to adulthood. It also gave me the names, dates of birth and current address of the surviving seven children, along with husbands names of the four daughters. I am now slowly working my way through the city directories and the parish registers on microfilm following up on this. There are only 16 people in the Lübeck 'phone book with the Kunde surname. Just over a month ago, I sent each of the them a brief letter in German with a descendency chart. I have now had several replies including from two who are my 3rd cousins! (My poor German is now getting a serious workout!). Better still they have a sister living in Bad Segeberg where the old Zarpen registers are in the Lutheran archive! I hope this encourages others to keep going with their research. Regards David Armstrong Maylands, Western Australia

    3. Dorothy The Lübeck City Directories have been microfilmed by the LDS, as have many if not most of the parish registers for Lübeck. These can ordered into your local LDS library. There are certainly some gaps in the LDS collection of parish registers, presumably as a result of the Second World War. By locating your family in the Directory, you can work out which is the nearest church. I recently had an address for the 1880s in the Innenstadt (ie Old Town) and then I used Google Maps to locate the street, and from their changed to the aerial photograph to see that St Jakobi was the nearest church to their home. The main Register Office for Lübeck has a website http://www.luebeck.de/fb3/340_standesamt.html from where you should be able to get a civil birth certificate. (They'll charge for a search if you can't give the exact address.) Also, have you considered "Confirmation" Records. Your grandmother was presumably confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Sweden when she was about 14? What do Swedish confirmation records say? (I'm currently awaiting a Confirmation Register microfilm from St Lorenz which I hope will give me details of the children who were born in St Gertrud (I think) during a period when the St Gertrud baptism registers haven't been microfilmed (because they're destroyed?)). Månsson 1876 Need help, if at all possible. My grandmother Anna Marie Månsson was b. January 23, 1876 in Lubeck Schlewig-Holstein. She was born out-of-wedlock to Stina Månsdotter. I do not know the name of her father. She left from Niedorfer, Lubeck May 5, 1882 for Virestad, Sweden to live with her grandparents. She was baptised February 11, 1876. Where? Is it possible to get her birth certificate and the name of the church she was baptized in? Someone told me all records were destroyed during the WW? Is that so? Any help appreciated or pointing me in the right direction or resource also appreciated. Thank you, Dorothy

Kinda busy this week; BUT, I also have some Struve's in our tree - lots of info on McLean County, ILGenWeb site; my grandparents (Stroh/Beck) ancestors were charter members of St. John's Lutheran Church, Rural Anchor, McLean County, Illinois. There is also a marker @ site of Heide, Illinois, just south of the church. 3. AH, so lucky to have an "unusual" surname! My searches are Stroh, Beck, and Hahn! Take your pick - lol! ladybug ----- Original Message ----- From: "David Armstrong" <[email protected]> To: "Schleswig-Holstein List" <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, November 02, 2008 10:11 PM Subject: [SCHLESWIG-HOLSTEIN-ROOTS] Success in Lübeck G'day everyone, I thought I would share a recent success concerning my German ancestry with the list. 1. [SCHLESWIG-HOLSTEIN-ROOTS] Help w Anna M. Månsson 1876
    2. Dorothy Beckelman
    3. Need help, if at all possible. Is that so? Anna Marie's mother worked as a domestic servant. In 1873 for A. Bendfeld in Sierksdorf, and in 1875 for Muhle (Mill) Quintzahn in Hasselburger if that helps any. There is a letter of recommendation for future employment with these two names on it. Any help appreciated or pointing me in the right direction or resource also appreciated. Thank you, Dorothy

I have gone back as far as my great-grandfather. His name was Detlef Hennings and he immigrated to the US (Illinois) after WWI. He served in the German army during WWI. He died from a farming accident at about age 24. I believe he came from central/northern Germany. I would appreciate any info. 3. I have an interest in the family of Hans Witt and his wife Ann Margaretha of the parish of Zarpen near Lübeck. Their daughter Elisabeth Witten (1751-1809) married Hans Heinrich Ralf at Zarpen in 1774.
