I have recently received from Klaus Struve (whose website is http://www.rootdigger.de/) the details of the baptism of my great great grandfather Johann Hinrich Hansen whose parents were Jess Peter Hansen a Tagelöhner and Anna Caroline Asmussesn. His grandfather was Johann Hansen of Eggebek. I looked at the Danish Census website (www.ddd.dda.dk) and found the following listing in Eggebek from the 1845 census. Bolitta Jepsen 77 Witwe wird von der Commune unterstützt Jörl Hans Hansen 43 Verheir. ihr Sohn, Tagelöhner Eggebeck Anna Maria Thomsen 45 Verheir. dessen Frau Bau Jes Peter Hansen 9 Unverheir. ihr Sohn Eggebeck I've been told that Hans was short for Johann so I wondering if the above listing would refer to Jes Peter Hansen and his father Johann Hansen or have I got the wrong census listing? I just haven't yet been able to find any census listings that would be more likely. thanks in advance. Dorothea, the records of departures from Hamburg (passenger lists) are fairly complete. The early 1850 ' ies are not exhaustive as not every small number of emigrants were registered (under 25 persons, I think). 62 passenger lists of the year 1853, from Jan. to mid May, are lost. The records of departures from Bremen(passenger lists) for the whole 19 th century were destroyed. Nobody saw a good reason for keeping them. They were simply thrown away. I replied to Klaus Riecken in a bilateral mail. His question (in German) was if there was any insight as to how large the portion of illegal emigrants was, the ones who left without permits, especially the young men who were in a draftable age. I think the statistics I published must have come from port authorities, as only they would have known the destinations of emigration, and the exact count. And therefore, I think that the figures include the illegal emigrants, as well. They did not swim over to America. But I dare not take a guess at the question how big their percentage was of the total. It was the folks from Bremen that I had contact with, Klaus. My Grandfather emigrated in March of 1885 embarking from Bremen. (My regular computer is in the shop and I am on my laptop.) My grandmother and her daughter embarked from Hamburg in 1886. Neither record was available for those dates as they were lost or destroyed according to their offices. I was forever grateful to him though as it was he who put me in contact with someone at the records office which ended in my being able to get my grandfathers marriage record, and my Aunt's birth record. I guess he felt sorry for me at the time. I know my Grandfather came legally as my mother had his service discharge papers early in the last century, but destroyed them at the advice of some idiots in WW1. Anyway, the gentleman's email is on my other computer, and I can't give you the precise timeline. When it comes back, I will give the precise dates that he said were missing. Jens I don't have any direct information for your search, but I did find a John Rohwer in the 1870, 1880 US census, and 1895 and 1905 Wisconsin state census. Both were born in 1829. John lived in Sheboygan, Wisconsin all those years. The census will also give all members of the household and you can go up to the 1930 census. Note that many Germans changed their name to English versions, In my family Hans became Henry, and Juergen became John, and also the census taker might have not spelled the last name correctly. Now I wonder if you can provide me with information. One great grandfather was Marx Roeschmann. He lived in or near Jevenstedt On left for the US in 1883.. His father, Hans Jochim Roeschmann (1795 - 1858) married Anna Rohwer Sievers (1801 - 1845). Two generations back, a g-g-g-g-grandfather Joachim Roeschmann (1718 - 1793) married Engel Rohwer. I also see many entries of Rohwer and Sievers on birth records as witnesses. I have no other information on these two families and wonder if you have some. Hallo Herr Struve, vielen Dank für die Infomation. Gibt es Erfahrungswerte über den illegal ausgewanderten Anteil in Zahlen? Ich weiß, dass eine Antwort schwierig ist, aber ich versuche es trotzdem. One shows Elizabetha Margaretha WENDEL b. 18 OCT 1765 Erzbach, Reichelscheim/ Odenwald. d. 1794 Family info Father, Johann Peter WENDEL 1729-1775 Mother Anna Elizabeth KEIL 1736- unknown The other shows Elizabetha Margaretha WENDEL b. 18 OCT 1765 Hoxhohl,- Dieburg,Hessen, Germany d. 1784 Family info Father Johann Georg WENDEL 1715-1784 Mother Anna Margaretha KELLER 1728-1795 I cannot verify any of this info but Ancestry.com indicates 1 source each but does not give that source. Does anyone have information that ties my WENDEL to the others I have listed ? Kind of a long shot I know but worth exploring none the less. Thank you. Bob Armbrust Port Orange, FL USA

Hi Stephen, First file 10.jpg : running number, date of birth (day / month), parents' names, child's name, godparents. Second file 2.jpg : same thing. Third file 11.jpg : running number, date of birth (day / month), father's name, child's name, no godparents. Seems to be from a garrison, this lat one. Several rows of entries written across a double page. Always begins with a running number. Ends with the child's name. All files : with the child's name, there is S or T - son or taughter ;) Greetings from the roots, Klaus (Struve), in Kiel (at work, digging roots) -------- Original-Nachricht -------- > Datum: Sat, 4 Apr 2009 22:21:54 EDT > Von: [email protected] > An: [email protected] > Betreff: [SCHLESWIG-HOLSTEIN-ROOTS] Toenning church records > _http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~spegler/tonning_l_10.jpg_ > (http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~spegler/tonning_l_10.jpg) > > _http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~spegler/tonning_k_2.jpg_ > (http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~spegler/tonning_k_2.jpg) > > _http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~spegler/baptisms_11.jpg_ > (http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~spegler/baptisms_11.jpg) > > These are large files. > > There are no column headings, at least on the few decades that I checked. > > If I can, I'll check once more this coming week. > > Many thanks again, > > Stephen Pegler > check out my blog: > _http://peglermusings.blogspot.com/ > > > _ (http://peglermusings.blogspot.com/) > **************Hurry!
