He was my mother's older brother. My mom was born in 1932, so the dates that you give match what I know. As Babe isn't that common of a name, I think we are talking about the same Erwin R. Schirmer. He went by Bob or Sonny and his Dad was also Erwin R. Schirmer. His mother was Mildred Geilow. He had two sisters. My mother was the middle child and she died in 1988. The youngest sibling passed last year. I didn't think he was born in MN, but one of my great aunts lived up there, so it is possible. Both of my folks have passed, but if there is any info that my sister or I can recall or fill in for you, feel free to send a message and I'll try and get you what info I can. They arrived at Castle Garden in NY on the ship Brailow. He married Hermine Petzoldt in 1860, She was also born in Germany . They had 8 children born in Altenburg MO. (1) Wilhelm Traugott 1860 (2) August Christian 1863 (3) Heinrich Friedrich 1864 (4) Karl Ludwig 1872 (5) Dorothea Elisabeth 1874 (6) Sara Auguste 1876 (my grandmother) (7) Martin Manuel 1878 (8) Christine Hermine 1883. I have alittle more info on some of these people. Would like to make contact with some of my distant relatives and perhaps exchange info. I am trying to find information on Frederick Schirmer - b: Germany around 1813 - married I believe (by word of mouth) Christina ???? also from Germany.
