He was one of four children (Jacques, Adam, and Caroline) and had a cousin Geoffroy who's parents were Geoffroy and Caroline Keller. Both Gustav and Geoffroy were involved in several wars/battles in Europe before coming to the US in 1861, just in time for the Civil war. I see your post was from a few years ago.
