    3. Response to John Turner: Hi, John. Nothing specific, but Standing Springs is an important clue to me. It's near Greenville, on the road between Mauldin and Fork Shoals. The Standing Springs Baptist Church is an old, old church and probably has some records that could help you. The Garrett name is well-known up through there, especially around Fountain Inn, Gray Court, etc., (northwestern chunk of Laurens County). There was a Rev. George Garrett, Methodist minister who was a Main Street Church -- he and Grand-daddy Wells became great friends. Mama remembers that he had two daughters, one of whom became a nurse but isn't still around Greenwood. I went to Erskine with Amy Garrett, who was from Simpsonville or Fountain Inn. You may have known Ronnie Garrett, now a pharmacist either at Aiken or Hilton Head, i think -- he was married to carol uprichard, but after the polatty/marcengill fiasco, I want to stay away from that! The greenwood regional phonebook, which covers from abbeville to fountain inn/simpsonville, to laurens/joanna to chappells and saluda now -- ain't that a mess? -- has about 2 columns of garretts. if you get a line on a name of a living person in that area, i'll check for a number. Life is good. annie
