    1. [SCGREENW] Early DAR Records: Pope/Strother/Matthews.Holloway/moore/hill/Abney/Self/King
    2. Lee and Billie Jones
    3. POPE and STROTHER families. Related lines include MATTHEWS, HOLLOWAY, MOORE, HILL, ABNEY, SELF, KING and others. I am posting some information that I found in some very old books of info. from DAR records from the "DAR Traveling Library". The library no longer travels" but it housed at the Camden Archives and Museun, Camden, SC. These records are from 4 old books that contain DAR records and Bible records, etc. of early members of DAR who joined Chapters in SC. All are not pertinent to Edgefield Dist, some not even to SC, but I have found lots of informatiom that has helped me tie some families together that were already in my files. I has been exciting for me to read a record that was filed in early 1900s by someone who possibly even talked to their Rev. War ancestor, who was their grand or great-grandfather. Some don't have the dates they were filed, however. Very little proof is given in the old files, but guess if you were that close to the time period, they figure that you knew the info. No locations were given except for the Rev. War soldier and the person who submitted the file. I will post several families where info. came from these Books and will site the DAR sources. If anyone can add to the info. about these families, please do so. I have not researched any further in census, cemetary books, deeds and still have 2 more books to go. So will post as I find them. Because I was able to make connections, my other research in now linked to the family and also shows up. Other desc. of several folks comes from HC Ouzts' files and my own research. It was exciting when I was able to connect to this family as I found marriages to people I already had in my files w/o spouse. I will be glad to send a genealogy report with notes and sources to anyone who request the info. First: The SOLOMON POPE family. I was interested in this one, because both my great uncle David Pope DeCoursey and his father William Pope Coursey had the middle name Pope and I do not know where it came from. I still have not made the connection that shows it connected to any of the families in their direct line except the Holloways, but even that is not to the direct Holloway ancestor. So I will work on that some more. Hope the info. below helps someone out. I have no other verification other than the DAR records for Solomon POPE and his children. Other desc. of several folks comes from HC Ouzts' files, other contacts who have share their data and my own research. I was able to connect to this family as I found marriages to people in my files. I will be glad to send a genealogy report with notes and sources to anyone who request the info. Billie Jones Camden, SC tjones@camden.net Family of SOLOMON POPE: NOTES on Solomon from DAR # 282722 Mrs. Julia King Medlock, Augusta, Ga. (Old Ninety Six Chapter). The file states that Solomon Pope was born in Edgefield, SC in 1740 and died in Edgefield district, SC on the 22nd of May 1794. She sites: Stub Indents to Rev. claims growing out of the Rev. War Book R to T, p. 292 (Lib.1) --No. 614 issued 30th June 1780 to Solomon Pope for fifty-two pounds 13 shillings and 2 pense 1/2 for Military duty per account audited. Principal 152. 13. 21/2. Interest 1. 3. 18.-8. Verified by National number 128343. Sworn bofore me at Edgefield Co, SC this 18th day of April, 1933. She also gives Solomon's father as Sampson Pope. MY COMMENTS: At the time of the birth of Solomon Pope, there was no Edgefield Dist. There was a Colleton Dist that ran from the coast to NC, that included eastern Edgefield and Abbeville, Saluda, Greenwood, western Newberry and Laurens Co. along with others. Then the 96th district was formed in 1769. It was not until 1785 that the early counties/Dist were formed. Therefore, Solomon would actually have been born in Colleton Dist, or if further west, in the Granville Dist. that ran along the Savannah River from the coast to NC and also included part of Edgefield Co. that is next to McCormick today. In the info that I have entered into the database from these DAR records (found in the SCDAR Libary located in the Camden Archives and Museum, Camden SC), I have sometime used more than one source. If one source had a more detailed name or data, I used that source for that info. (example: Some dates were only years on one, but full dates on the other.) COMMENTS on locations of early districts and the counties - click here: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Hills/3837/ look to the left side of the page, and choose "old districts" Scan down about half way to wonderful map that really helps see the way early SC developed.
