    3. Sorry Bille, None of your names match any of my Smith's from Stony Point, but will keep an eye out for you . Good Luck Bruce Smith ----- Original Message ----- From: Lee and Billie Jones To: SCGREENW-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Friday, July 19, 2002 10:37 PM Subject: Re: [SCGREENW] Re: Smith's of Stony Point Would any of you Smith researchers have information on a John Smith who had a wife Narcissa. They are given as the parents of my g-grandfather John Wesley Smith b. January 06, 1868 in SC. His death certificate had his mother's name as Narcissa [Breadwell?] but no father's name. His RR retirement file contained a father John Smith. there is a place of birth for him as Lexington, but with a question mark. I have found one John Smith with a wife Narcissa and a James Smith with a wife Narcissa in the Greenville Co., SC census records: Several of my mother's family from Greenwood moved to Greenville, so maybe there is a connections. Here are my notes and research comments on my effort to find this family. Maybe you will recognize some names: IN 1880, John Wesley Smith, my g-grandfather would have been twelve according to his tombstone. SPECULATION: I have no verification that this is the family of my John Wesley Smith. Stored here for future reference. 1880 Butler Township, Greenville Co., SC p. 237D has a family that contains the three known names: Smith, John A. W M 16 son farm laborer SC, SC, SC [the date is off by 4 years with his death cert] , David W M 14 son at home SC, SC, SC None of the family could read or write. Son David is listed as maimed, crippled, bedridden, or otherwise disabled. Another Smith family with wife Narcissa is also found in Greenville, with head of hh being JAMES Smith 1880 Dunklin, Greenville, South Carolina p. 142A [Source: FHL Film 1255230 National Archives Film T9-1230] Relation Sex Marr Race Age Birthplace James SMITH Self M M W 48 SC Occ: Farmer Fa: SC Mo: SC Narcissa SMITH Wife F M W 47 SC Occ:Keeps House Fa: SC Mo: SC Henry SMITH Son M S W 21 SC Occ: Laborer Fa: SC Mo: SC John SMITH Son M S W 20 SC Occ: Laborer Fa: SC Mo: SC Mary SMITH Dau F S W 13 SC Occ: Laborer Fa: SC Mo: SC Emma SMITH Dau F S W 10 SC Occ: Laborer Fa: SC Mo: SC James SMITH Son M S W 6 SC Occ: At Home Fa: SC Mo: SC Abigail SMITH Dau F S W 4 SC Occ: At Home Fa: SC Mo: SC [Age Of son John is 8 years off from my John Wesley, who named his first son James.] 1889 Augusta City Directory has 12 John Smith's (p. 370-371) could any of these be this John or his son John Wesley before he and his family moving to Aiken (there for 1900 census) and starting to work on the RR.,?
