This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Bishop, Turner, Moody, Rhodes, Couch Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/UeB.2ACI/3930 Message Board Post: The 1870 Census for SC - Greenville lists Wiley A Bishop's (my great grandfather) occupation as a member of the legislature - does anyone know where I may obtain info about the members of the SC Legislature 1868-72? I have searched and come up empty - even the SC State sites. Thanks
This information is probably not online. If you are not in South Carolina, you might have some luck writing the Governor's office. (See http://www.myscgov.com) If you are outside South Carolina and are in regular touch with relatives who live in South Carolina, you could try contacting their legislative delegation, and explain EXACTLY what information you would like to get. There is a small handbook published every year on the members of the SC legislature, but I don't know when those handbooks began to be published. The local history and genealogy collection (South Carolina Room) collection at the Main Library of the Greenville County Library System (http://www.greenvillelibrary.org) is outstanding, btw.
