    2. CRYSTAL RIVER, FL---Services for Albert Jennings Varney, 82, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 5, 2000 at the First Baptist Church, Crystal River, with Rev. L. B. Thomason officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to Shriners Children's Hospital, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605. Stickland Funeral Home of Crystal River is in charge. Mr. Varney died Wednesday, May 31, 2000. Born in WILLIAMSON, MINGO COUNTY, WV, he was the son of the late Albert Sr. & Myrtle Sammons Varney. He moved to Florida 42 years ago from ABBEVILLE, SC. Mr. Varney was a music instructor, band director, professional musician, & Director of Music and Fine Arts in the Citrus County School System, retiring after 27 years. He graduated from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, where he received his masters degree. Mr. Varney was a 32nd Degree Mason & a Shriner [Hejaz Temple, GREENVILLE, SC, where he also played in the Shrine Band]. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U. S. Navy. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Crystal River. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Gene Adams Varney of CRYSTAL RIVER; sons, Russell & his wife, Cindy Varney of TEMPLE TERRACE, FL, Mark Varney, Brad Varney, both of CRYSTAL RIVER; daughter, Elaine Varney Panuska & her husband, Robert of NOVA SCOTIA; grandchildren, Matthew, Cass Panuska, Adam Varney.
