Looking for information on Daniel Matthew Mckinney born on 8-14-1846 in Pickens county 1860 cencus lists a Rachel Mckinney as head of household 50 years old. Married a Rebecca Cothran 10-16-1867. I am searching for his father. Thanks
Here is what I find in the 1850 census, Pickens Dist., Eastern Division: Dwelling #102 Family #102 Daniel MCKINNEY, 74, m, w, born in NY Sarah, 77 yrs., f, w, born SC Betsy , 41 yrs., f, w, born SC Rachel, 40 yrs., f, w, born SC Sarah, 27 yrs., f, w, born SC Daniel, age 3, m, w, b. SC This sounds as if Daniel MCKINNEY, age 3, is a grandson of Daniel, age 74, and Sarah, age 77. Sarah, due to the skip in ages, may be the dau-in-law and mother to Daniel, age 3(prob. turned age 4 shortly after census). Poss. Daniel's father died shortly after he was born. But according to what you found, Rachel fits perfectly as the D-I-L & mother. Sarah, age 27, may have just been a late born child of the older couple. This still doesn't give you a father for Daniel, but it does seem to give you his paternal g'parents and the fact that the older Daniel came fr. NY. There are a few other MCKINNEY families in 1850 is you need that info. None have a Daniel but still might be connected to this family. Godspeed, and hope this is helpful!
