The Greenville Daily News, November 12, 1914 page three, column 2 "T. H. Sheppard Died Yesterday Thos. H. Sheppard, an esteemed citizen of Butler township, died at his home near Rocky Creek church yesterday after a few days' illness of eczema, age 69 years. Mr. Sheppard was a native of this county and with the exception [of] a few years in his young days he has lived here during his life. He entered the Confederate army as a 16 year old boy and served his country during the latter years of the war in Hampton Legion. He is survived by his widow and five children, as follows: W. T. Sheppard, Mrs. Frank Henderson, Mrs. P. H. Ross, Mr. [sic] Frank Jones and Mrs. John Hall of this county. The funeral services will be at Rocky Creek church today at eleven o'clock."
