Interment will be 3 p.m. in the UDC Cemetery of St. George, SC. Family will receive friends 10-11 a.m. at the church parlor prior to the service. Memorials may be made to St. James United Methodist Church, 3390 Pine Belt Road, Columbia, SC 29204. Shives Funeral Home is in charge. Mr. Ackerman died Wednesday, April 12, 2000. Born in St. George, SC, he was the son of the late Stephen Nollie Ackerman Sr. & Mary Dukes Ackerman. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Ackerman was a member of St. James United Methodist Church, treasurer of Wesley Sunday School Class & former president of the United Methodist Men, honorary lifetime board member of St. James United Methodist Church. He was retired from Seaco after 40 years of service. Surviving are his wife, Helen Crouch Ackerman; sons & daughter-in-laws, Jimmy & Andrea Ackerman of Charleston, SC, Rick & Mimi Ackerman of Columbia, SC; grandson & granddaughter-in-law, Rick Ackerman Jr. & Lisa & their children, Katie & Lindsay Ackerman, all of Fountain Inn, SC; grandsons, Steve Ackerman of Greenville, SC, Mike Ackerman of Clemson, SC, Derek Ackerman of Charleston, SC; sister, Sarah A. Patterson of Spartanburg, SC. He was predeceased by a son, Stephen Nollie Ackerman III.
