Jesse Madison COOK1. SECOND GENERATION 2. Jesse Spencer COOK. He was married to Mary* HITCH in 1838/39 in Laurens Co., SC.2 3. Mary* HITCH was born between 1818 and 1820 in Laurens Co., SC.3 She died between 1851 and 1859 in Laurens Co., SC. This Mary Hitch is an uncertain daughter of Louther and Lucinda (Motes) Hitch. However, given that she names a son and a daughter Luther and Lucinda is very compelling. Also, the 1820 Census establishes the fact that Louther and Lucinda Hitch had a daughter that was "under age 10" at the time. Given the age of the parents, however, we can assume that Mary Hitch was born circa 1818-1820. This would put her at prime marrying age in 1838 when she would have married Jesse Cook. Based upon all this evidence, the confidence level is high that this Mary Hitch is correctly positioned. THIRD GENERATION 6. In the inventory of John Hitch's estate taken between 11/13/1769 and 5/19/1770, Joshua and Nehemiah Hitch are listed as next of kin with Isabel Hitch as Administratrix. 24. Maryland Original Wills. John Hitch Jr.'s will was written Jul 30 1767 and probated Aug 10 1769 In Somerset County (MdOW). 25. She was listed in the will of James Nicholson as a daughter in his probate of 3/22/1748 (written 2/19/1748). 26. Somerset Co., MD Administrative Accounts. Administration of the account of Isabell Waller, Aug 29 1791. Inventory had been proved Jul 31 1790. (SoAA-EB16:476/477) This record became an extremely important finding in identifying the parentage of Louther, Curtis and Elijah Hitch as well as uncovering the female children in the family. Until the discovery of Isabell Waller's account administration, there had been much speculation as to the lineages of these individuals. 27. Maryland Vital Records. 28. Somerset Co., MD Judicials. This date is based upon depositions made in the Somerset Co., MD Judicial Records from 9/28/1728 (see 3/1728-29 court records folio 151) when he is indicated as age 69 and from 4/13/1730 (see 3/1731-32 records, folio 179-180) when he was age 72.
