I know from the family Bible that she was born in NC on 9 July 1906, and died in Rock Hill, SC on 13 November 1993. She was married to Thomas Clay Ashley (1902-1982) for awhile. It's my understanding that he left her after there 3rd child (around 1935). I have found the 1930 census where he name is spelled "Essie M Ashley", and her Social security Death Index, but that's it. I'm hoping to find out about her family... mom, dad, brothers, and sisters. She was in a nursing home after a stroke from around 1980 until 1993.
