    1. RE: Spartanburg Herald 1911
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Austin, Hudson, Holland, Smith Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/UeB.2ACI/3949 Message Board Post: Thank you for the excerpts from the Spartanburg papers which you post. To add some background on a couple of the individuals in the Aug 27, 1911 paper..... Dr. W. H. Austin (1829-1914) was the husband of Martha Ann Hudson. Miss Hudson was the daughter of Matthew Tyler Hudson and Anne Fleming Collins, and the granddaughter of Abraham Hudson and Elizabeth Tyler. And I believe Daniel Holland would be Daniel Webster Holland. His wife was Martha Ann Smith (1836-1910), daughter of John Pattie Smith and Margarette Elizabeth Smith. - Tim www.UpstateAncestry.com -----Original Message----- From: nancie o [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: 23 September, 2005 16:07 To: [email protected] Subject: [SCSPARTA] Spartanburg Herald 1911 Aug.27, 1911 NOTES AND NOTIONS, by E.A. WILKES I've been ailing some- pulse weak and variable appetite way below normal, circulation not good, digestion timid, and a general internal' oneasiness'. Prescription: a few delicate pills, soups and preaching. Am better this August and am up and doing. - MRS. W.H. THROWER, who has been quite ill, I am glad to note, is much better and in a fair way to recover. She is the wife of Rev. W.H. THROWER of the Cherokee circuit. - DR. W.H. AUSTIN, Simpsonville, is somewhere between 80 and 100 year. He was a red-faced, white headed, clean cut genial gentleman 20 years ago when I first met him, and the other day when to my delight I saw him I found him about the same, notwithstanding the many years that have passed. One blessing the doctor should thank God for every day, and that's for the rare and radiant woman whose heart and hand he won some 50 years ago. - By the way, speaking of Barnwell, reminds me- Brother FRANK CREECH, who rarely carries or discharges a deadly ' weepun', shot and accidentally it is said, hit a man of his native town in the leg the other day. Brother CREECH is the sheriff of Barnwell county and a staunch supporter of prohibition. - A fine type of the real Christian gentleman; DANIEL HOLLAND of Greenville county. He had the misfortune to lose his good wife some time ago, and although her departure sorely grieved him, he bears his affliction like all those whose faith is in Him- and who expects a happy meeting of all loved ones in the 'sweet by and by'. --- DEATHS Landrum, Aug. 30- After being confined to her bed a few days, MRS. SARAH STEADMAN passed away quietly Sunday night at 10 o'clock. Although she had been declining in health for some time, yet no one realized that the end was near. The deceased was 76 years of age and for 63 years she had been a faithful member of WOLFE'S Creek Bapt. church. She leaves the following children: MRS. L.J. GOSNELL, MRS. ELLA SHEHAN, MR. C.M. STEADMAN, MRS. CARRIE BULLINGTON, MRS. JENNIE CHILDRES and MR. JAMES STEADMAN, all of Landrum. The funeral services were conducted at the Bapt. church by her pastor, REV. J.H. MITCHELL, after which interment followed at the city cemetery. Many beautiful floral wreaths were placed upon her grave by friends. --- CAMPOBELLO Aug. 28- MR. SCOTT of Gaffney, is moving his family here. He will be working for MR. J.B. CALDWELL at the oil mill. - F.A. STEWART, who has been in the mountains for 2 weeks with a camping party, is expected home today. - MRS. JOHN JONES is spending several days with her mother at North Pacolet. - MRS. ALICE HUNTER spent Sunday with her parents, MR. and MRS. L.M. DAVIS , near Gowansville. - The friends of MRS. WALTER JACKSON age glad to know she is improving. ---- nancie o. - share, don't sell . ==== SCSPARTA Mailing List ====
